You have your opinion, I have mine.
I go on experience and my Bishop Emeritus celebrates both types of Masses that I attend. In varied Churches. Opinons mean nothing, everyone has one. Faith and belief in God is firstly experience.

I am sure while the bombs were flying this was a very important point to discuss. Perhaps Douay Rheims…

And, after 23 year in the Army, thee and a half in combat for nations other than ours, I am qucik to point out that as a result the US is “not more free” and we have not fought for our own freedom since WWII.

quick
  1. This discussion is about ww1, not ww2…
  2. Did I say anything as such? I direct-quoted the Catechism. If you have a problem with that, take it up with the Church. not me.

lol ,i was thinking of the arrangement of the pic with the verses, and also the movie Saving Private Ryan ,one sniper says Ps 91 lol or was it Psalm 144:1-3 Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle;2 my rock and my fortress,my stronghold and my deliverer,my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues the peoples under me.

The German army had as many priests saying mass for the troops as did any of the other armies. God must have had a real tough time deciding whose “please let me live” prayers to answer. Considering the many many millions who died in that war, I doubt it if he responded to any of those prayers.

You are thinking about God and if or how He would respond to prayer. What is the definition of Agnostic ?

I see it as part of the journey home.

I see it as a first step towards atheism for a cautious questioner of religion. It takes a lot of courage to say “I am a card carrying atheist” It isn’t so scary to say “I doubt it”. I think God might forgive and help a simple confused doubter.

Pretty easy here to say it. Everyone I know says it.

God shows mercy, remember Thomas?

Just adding to the topic Maxi; cool down and do not presume I am going against the Church nor that you are its spokesperson.

From Merriam Webster:
  1. a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (such as God) is unknown and probably [unknowable]
  2. one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the [nonexistence] of God or a god
  3. a person who is unwilling to commit to an opinion about something

Well, of course they were all Tridentine Latin Mass, so by definition they were more reverent, celebrated in the field or not…
right, because reverence must always be visual and defined by a particular group. It’s ridiculous to believe that anyone else could be reverent at any other liturgy, including the early Christians. They had no reverence at all until the Tridentine Latin Mass was introduced.

Of course!!! Notice the Horrifying irreverance in the photo I included in the DMZ- scandalous!!! And the lack of manus spansus- mortal sin!!!
This is the kind of judgmental fetishism around action a priest does around the altar that becomes a real turn off to neophytes.

It was one of the numerous times the Kims in North Korea rattled their sabre; so in the midst of this mess and the mud, over come the padre and asks where he can set up.

Especially if the soldiers said "I know that the othe side prays to you as well. but they are pagans, so don’t listen to them…Amen!
