Grief and support not just for tourists and Phuket

Let us pray Reilly was at church when it hit. šŸ˜¦
There is a parish on Phuket, with a congregation of about one hundred, but the building isnā€™t on the coast: itā€™s inland and doesnā€™t seem to have been affected by the fury of the surging waters." He told AsiaNews that the Thai Church is about to launch a campaign across parishes and Catholic schools to raise funds in favour of the coastā€™s fishermen. The government has also taken action to bring emergency aid to affected areas.
In Thailand, more than 1000 people died as a result of sea surges in the south. Father Pornchai Techapitaktham, pastor of Saint Agnes Church in Krabi, said that the 30 families of his parish are all safe because at the moment of the disaster they were attending Sunday Mass inland and were not in their homes closer to the coast.

I am hoping he did not live in Phuket - all I can find is that he said he lived either ā€œup or downā€ from Bangkok - if he lived in the other direction, he will be fine but I would think the lines being down and limited due to heavy messaging there might prevent him from ā€œgetting outā€ online. I certainly hope that it is just ā€œline overloadā€.

"Dear Jen:

My family and I are fine.Ɗ We live in central Thailand, and did not even find out about the problems down south until the next day!Ɗ Thank you very much for your concern, and please pray for those who were injured and/or lost loved ones in this terrible disaster.

God Bless you, and many wishes for a wonderful new year."

Thanks to all of you who expressed concern. Actually, I was in Church when it happened, but I was several hundred miles away from any danger, and didnā€™t even hear about it until the next day (I donā€™t watch a lot of TV)!

For those that care, I have been avoiding the forum, as I have been, and am, suffering a distinct lack of charity, and can no longer trust my instincts to avoid replying to, what I consider, insipid diatribes in a reasonable manner. Thus, once I have overcome my own vanity I will probably once again prowl the threads ā€¦ but a brief review of some recent postings leads me to believe that I still have a LONG, LONG way to go.

None-the-less, I do think of many of you often, and have enjoyed reading many of the postings.

God Bless you all ā€¦ and please pray for the survivors in the affected areas.
:blessyou: :gopray:
