Do you experience any physical manifestations of God’s presence? For example, are there any particular physical sensations you experience while praying that you attribute to God? Does it happen in any other situations?

yes the words i use are over my understanding! especially when im silent because i have no reasoning with whats being said on my behalf, thats the holy spiritus for you and what could be better!

I won’t go into the details as to why were there, but my wife and I along with our daughter were at a meeting with our parish Priest. During this visit the Priest did a prayer and mini exorcism because of the demons in our daughter’s life.

There was no mistaking the presence of God in that room, it was electrifying. You could feel the warmth/buzz and His Presence moving from one person to another and around the room consuming all of us. Ever moving, ever touching every one of us. So much so, that I was looking around the room half expecting to see an actual physical manifestation of God Himself. When it was over everyone was looking at each other to see if we all had the same experience. We all felt it and described the same things.

Afterwards the Priest said the he felt physically drained and shaken a bit, but all of us were at peace. This is one of the most powerful moments in my spiritual life.

Praise God.

Nope, but I wish, and I have asked God several times for me to experience a bit of Him. Unfortunately, the prayer was unanswered…

That said, I’m very fond of reading the Bible…it always highlights God’s magnificence 😛

Thank you,

For some reason usually right before the Sun goes down I go outside and just look around…see the birds, trees and the sky and think of God…every single time I start feeling such a huge Love that is beyond human love it is the very best part of my day…but that is actually emotional not physical experience 😃

When I enter into Meeting…there is a profound Silence and Peace that floods me…and I know the Presence has made Himself known and draws me into Communion.

One of the first things I do each day is to stand on the back porch…no matter if it’s raining…snowing…bitterly cold…or sunny…I greet the day…“His mercy is renewed each day.”

Thanks for all the replies! I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve just never heard anyone speak explicitly about how they experience God’s presence. I thought maybe I was the only one 🙂

Mark, I assume you are talking about speaking in tongues? I’ve talked to other Catholics who do this. Of course, speaking tongues is a big part of the AoG that I’m a part of. I’ve experienced it personally, but not on a regular basis. It is very powerful.

Is there any emotional response associated with this activity for you?

That is a very interesting experience! Thanks for sharing it. This is exactly the kind of thing I experience. You used some of the same words I use to describe His presence.

I’ve also had one extremely powerful experience that sounds similar to yours in intensity. I’ll tell about that later.

I hope someday you will! Maybe some of the other testimonies here will help you.
Ummm, does the Eucharist count? 😃
I don’t know. That’s one thing I’m quite curious about. 🙂 Can you describe what happens to you that is different from the ordinary act of eating and tasting something?

I would like to experience it and see for myself, but I don’t see being intellectually able to partake of the Catholic Eucharist any time soon. I do plan to attend a mass and go forward for a blessing from the priest at my next opportunity. My only direct experience with Catholic services so far is being a member of the wedding party in several Catholic weddings.

For me with our AoG communion, it’s intensely personal with Jesus, but it’s more of an internal thing. I’ve never experienced the kind of presence in that context that I have in other situations.

That sounds similar to the kind of peace and silence that I find during private praise, worship, and prayer. His presence can be really powerful at times.

I get the same thing when I’m outside at night with a telescope. There is nothing more inspirational to me, and no stronger sign of His glory, than the night sky.

PLeeD, PM if you would like, I have two or three others that are rather interesting but might be a little long here on line.

In my opinion…God’s Presence is experienced inwardly…whether I feel the “Presence of God” or not depends more on the receptivity of my own spirit than whether or not God makes Himself known…He is always Present…we just need to acknowledge and live in that mindset.

Sort of related, but worth sharing here:

Every night, I put the dogs out for 30 minutes while I pray. I usually light candles on the mantle. The other night, I let the dogs in and went to bed - I was wiped out. My German Shepherd kept jumping up on me as I was falling asleep, like she needed to go back outside. That’s odd, since she’d spent most of the night outside. Well, I followed her downstairs and saw that I left my candles lit! I blew them out, and she went right back upstairs into her bed. Gods guardian angels protecting us, I’m certain!

I had a similar situation a couple weeks or so ago…it’s been too wet here to mow the lawn…but a couple weeks ago there was a “sun break” so I went out to mow…mower was empty…as was small gas can…so I siphoned out some gas from a larger can into the mower and went about my business mowing…about half way done…I had this “feeling”…in my minds eye I saw the large gas can pouring gas all on the garage floor…went back into the garage…and sure enough…gas was making it’s way along the floor across the garage to the hot water heater…which has a pilot light…stopped the leak…saved my home…and probably my life…God takes care of fools I guess.

Some years ago while drive I 59 to Texas, I heard a voice say, “Jon, wake up”. I was falling asleep at the wheel. The sensation was not a voice in my head, but something I heard.

Yes, but sometimes it’s much stronger than at other times. It is always too short in duration, even if it’s twenty minutes it’s too short. Once it happens you just go around thinking about it and waiting for the next time, except the next time never seems to happen until you give up thinking about it. You spend all day thinking about when you can go off by yourself and wait for it to happen again. Afterward, you go around for days feeling a certain peace that’s hard to explain very well. Then you go through this really bad period where you no longer have the peace, but you no longer want the other stuff that used to make you happy, like food or new clothes, new cars and whatnot. Before going out and getting or doing these things made you feel good, and now they don’t. You don’t feel like talking to anyone. You get stuck in this place where all you want is that experience again, but it comes when IT decides to, and you are stuck with no consolation in the meantime. All the time you know it’s right there, but if you look too hard it doesn’t happen. And what do we naturally do with something we really want? We look too hard for it. My advice? Be careful what you ask for.

Thanks again for all the replies. I appreciate the accounts of divine intervention. My interest is more in how we perceive the presence of God during our normal activities like prayer, worship, and joining together in our regular church services.

There is one specific physical sensation that I get which I attribute to God’s presence. I’m going out on a bit of a limb here, and hope I don’t sound crazy. This is how I would describe it in words that make sense to me. I describe it as feeling like warm electric rain that penetrates my skin.
  • It’s like rain in that its source seems to be from above. As it makes contact with me it starts on my head and shoulders and proceeds downward.
  • It’s electric in the sense that it feels like real energy, as if standing in a strong electric or magnetic field. It is definitely a warm, peaceful, and comforting sensation.
  • The last important point is that the sensation is not external. It starts at my skin and radiates inward.
Like Publisher said, the onset of the sensation is usually more related to my receptiveness to it, though at times it has come unexpectedly. I most often get this sensation during the praise and worship part of our Sunday service. It comes when I’ve opened myself up in worshiping Him through music or prayer. The sensation is always the same, and only varies in intensity.

This sounds similar to what WmScott described in his meeting with the priest. I wonder if anyone else recognizes this description and experiences it themselves?

I know that feeling PLeeD that you just described…that warm and peaceful energy comes from above. Usually it happens to me when I am thinking of something I have to figure out or when I am trying to find an answer…I do not really feel it during praying…but I am new in the Church and I think I have to work on praying 🙂
Maybe this is a bit different subject but since I returned to the church I get a lot of clues…signs…Like today we were in the car, my husband was driving and for some reason I thought of temptations in general…i looked out of the window and saw a big billboard next to the road that said: Just say no!
😊😃
