Picking a Patron Saint

Hi all! I’m going to start RCIA classes for teens soon (I’m coming back to the Church) for confirmation, and one of our assignments is to pick a patron saint and write a paper about him/her. Writing the paper is no big deal, but I can’t seem to choose a patron saint. There are so many! Can anyone think of some that might work for me?

I’m a 16 year old girl and I love reading and am probably going to study library science in college (which is why I’m considering Catherine of Alexandria, for one). I love knitting, baking, wasting time online, and my greatest ambition in life thus far is to become a good wife and mother. I also like birds–doves, in particular. Some of my biggest spiritual weaknesses include: doubts, fears, and an unpleasant amount of pride. (:tsktsk:)

I also had one more question. Do some people choose Mary as their personal saint, or is that just not done? I really admire Mary, but I’m wondering if it’s a little arrogant to pick her because I am so unlike her.

Maybe you could pick a saint who also had struggles with doubts, fears, and/or pride. Pick someone you can relate to, or admire.

I also have to pick a Patron Saint, and I have a few in mind myself.

Saint Joan of Arc because I love medieval knights and chivalry.
Saint Faustina because she is Polish (I’m part Polish), and the Divine Mercy Chaplet is one of my favorite prayers.
Saint Therese of Lisieux also seems to be getting up there on the list.

Many people have chosen Our Blessed Mother as their Patron Saint. Certainly, we are unlike any Saint.
 
By the way, if you pick Virgin Mary as your patron Saint, you could also pick one of her feast days as your special day. 🙂 There are many feast days for our Blessed Mother.

Yup. I was wondering if anyone knew of any saints who were specific to those faults.

I am also quite unlike her, but I assure you I am not the first male Catholic to choose Mary as a name:nope:
