It isn’t. Church (and the sacraments) are not personal or individual things; they’re communal. This is a great opportunity for you and the OP in your similar circumstances (albeit, a bit uncomfortable, perhaps, and not the way you would have chosen) to better engage in your parish community, even if it’s with only one or two other people.
It’s just a very different message to the one I got when I first graduated, attended mass alone and just felt that my fellow Catholics didn’t want to know, even after volunteering . In those circumstances you get told to “suck it up and focus on the sacraments”
