Picking saints

I have forgotten that i needed to pick a saint when being confirmed on Easter. I have just started reading up on some of the saints but there are just so many and i have little time. I have thought about Faustina, watched a video of her the other night in RCIA but not sure, still reading up on her.

So my question is there a female saint that had a life where they had an issue with one or both parents? abuse maybe?, or dealing with atheist or agnostic in the family?.

OR can i just pick a saint who’s story just most stood out to me even though it has no relation to me whatsoever?.
 
You can pick any saint you admire and would like to imitate in some way. There doesn’t have to be a relation to your past, only your future. Today many people don’t pick a new name for confirmation when they already have a saint’s name. I personally favor choosing another name in order to have another special friend in our journey through life. Since I had no version of Mary in my original name, I chose Marie as my confirmation name. It flowed better with my name than Mary did. (which isn’t really important, but if I could have Mary or Marie and still have the Blessed Virgin as my patron, why not pick the one I like better?)

St. Bernadette of Lourdes comes to mind.

Look up St. Rita of Cascia also and Catherine of Sienna.
 
Thanks, funny how the holy spirit works, the names Bernadette while looking around jumped at me as well as saint Anne who was childless for many years before having Mary.

Well, you can have Bernadette Anne…or Annie Bernadette…😃 see which sounds better…😃
 
I’m looking for a saint who was a wife and mother, two things I hope to be one day soon! The patronesses of single unmarried women tend to be young virgin martyrs who neither married or had children. 🤷

Saint Faustina would be a wonderful choice. I just finished reading her diary for the second time (I can’t rule out a third!) and I marvel at the immensity of her love for Jesus. She suffered very much in her life, both physically and spiritually, but never hesitated in her job of promoting God’s mercy. Another choice you might consider is Saint Dymphna. Although she is the patron saint of those having mental illnesses, her story may have some of the points you mentioned. Her mother was very devout, as Dymphna was. Her father was a “pagan”. When Dymphna’s mother died, her father decided to marry his own daughter. Dymphna fled her country but her father found her and because of her refusal, he beheaded her with his own sword. Our Blessed Mother was of course married and a mother 👍

Blessed Zelie Martin (19th century) was the mother of St. Therese of Lisieux. She’d be a great choice.

St. Gianna (20h century) was a wife, mother, and a doctor (I believe).

St. Monica (4th century) was the mother of St. Augustine.

St. Ann (1st century B.C.) was the mother of Mary.

St. Rita (15th century) was a wife and mother as well.

Those are just a few right off the top of my head. God bless you and may the Holy Spirit guide you in this process.
