Pictures of home altars/prayer spaces?

I’m looking into this and was wondering if you all could help me with some ideas, so if you feel like sharing please post pictures of your altars/prayer spaces! 🙂

I think you mean ‘shrine’, not ‘altar’. An altar is the place where a sacrifice is made, a shrine is a place for devotion and prayer. Catholic homes cannot have altars because that would necessitate having a priest celebrate the Mass on a table (which needs to be consecrated prior to use, I believe) that is set aside specifically for the purpose of re-presenting the sacrifice of our Lord in the form of the Eucharist. It is a common misuse of the word altar which I have observed many times. But definitely, a home shrine is a wonderful act of devotion!

I call my prayer space an “oratory” which is proper to its use. I don’t have an altar in it, but instead, a prie-dieu.

Well right now I’m living in my Dad’s house to spend my final days of summer. My prayer space is nothing much compared to the one at my house. Over at my house I have a little glass table with a little statue of the Virgin Mary and some holy books laid out on the side with a crucifix above the statue, and above that is a portrait of the sacred heart.

Anyway mine is just a group of icons under my crucifix on the wall (the wall at the side of my bed, because that’s east), I have a crucifix above (a more realistic one, not bronze or silver colored) and underneath three icons, first the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus (Theotokos Eleusa-Kiksk) and in the middle one that depicts Christ holding a lamb on His shoulders with scenes of His life around him, in a cross shape, and then the Icon not made my hands, also in some strange coincidence by Ushakov! Plus there’s an inexpensive Pantocrator print and a miniature painting of the Sacred Heart on wood (at the head of my bed). Besides that I’ve got my holy water and chapel veils on the edge on my desk shelf next to my bed.

And I have got to add that I bought them not from this Orthodox site, because it was cheaper, but from a Catholic website that charged fifty cents more, just because it was Catholic. But guess who they sent my order to? :rotfl:
 
when I put this shrine together, I thought; you spend hours each day praying, so what can I do here to focus myself on prayer. I just started buying things off of Ebay. The big pictures were given to me by my son and his wife. The large crucifix I bought for about $30.00. The statues were collected years ago. Then I thought I really needed a chalice. (not sure why but it seemed liked the thing to do at the time). Built the “altar” out of plywood. There is no Altar Stone or relic. (although I do have a second class relic of Pope St. Pius X). The altar crucifix was purchased from another blogger. The Altar linens are hand-me-downs from a Catholic church.
My pride and joy is my vestment collection. Some day I’ll post pictures of that.
 
We inherited the home altar of a dear friend, a retired Byzantine priest, who used it for daily Divine Liturgy in a spare bedroom of his home after retirement:

Wow! I’m afraid I have to settle for the patio or just a quiet room.
