I tried a year or two ago to get my wife to post on these boards… “mrschrismyster”… and after about a week lurking i asked her what she thought and she prophetically said:
“some of the people seem nice, but most of them are petty, little people who argue about everything. they’re not nice.”

i thought about that, and at its heart, thats true of about 90% of the people on here. they’re just not nice people.

and thats true about these boards… 90% of the people i wouldn’t associate or give a second word to in real life… petty bickerers who come here to argue and never have a nice word about anyone.

This place, i’ve always said, may perhaps scare more people away from the Church than it brings in.

but, just like real life… ignore the opinions of people who are vinegar and flock to the people who give honey.

I agree with you and your wife 100 percent, and I’ve felt a lot of sadness from the way some people on this forum express themselves. I also worry that it paints the Church in a certain way.

The topic is “Pictures of your local parish church” and in that vein, I will just reload from another link a photo of my old parish, St. Joseph Aurora:

Yes, that is marble, including the altar rail. It was built in 1956.
 
Here’s our parish during an ordination. It’s a bit fuzzy, but the new deacon, the PP, and the Bishop are all visible. This parish fought tooth and nail to keep the Bishop in the 70’s from remodeling it.
 
This isn’t my parish church, but this lovely chapel is about 25 miles from where I live. They have the TLM on the first Saturdays of the warmer months, so I go whenever I can. I had some pictures of the inside, but lost those when my computer got fried in a severe storm. 😦 Upstairs in the loft is the cutest little single-manual antique pipe organ, and it works! Outdoors, they have the Stations of the Cross at the edge of the woods. Daffodils are planted at each station, and by the time Holy Week rolls around, they are usually in bloom. These are just some of the things I love about this little treasure out in the “boonies.”

Those are pictures of my local parish of St.Cuthbert’s, Seaham, England. The church is recently refurbished with the tabernacle brought back to the centre of the sanctuary after the previous PP put it to the side of the sanctuary.

If you can believe it the previous PP actually built a wall in the gap between the two walls which now bare the “God so loved the world he gave his only son” and moved the blessed sacrament across into a side Altar … for no reason whatsoever … change for changes sake.

When our current PP arrived he soon began to transform things and he totally re-ordered the Sanctuary and made it look as it does today.

I must admit I’m now very proud to be a parishioner at St.Cuthberts Seaham

This is the parish where all my co-workers go and are very involved in. They are building a new church across the street and it will have a very traditional look to it.

The church dates from around 1880 - was ‘revamped’ in the mid 70s, in line with Vatican II. Unfortunately I can’t find any ‘pre’ pictures on-line to let you see, but there was an incredibly beautiful altar and reredos - completely destroyed (before my time, but it still makes me sad)

You know what makes me really sad? Visiting the old churches that were wrecked during the Reformation. I went to Paisley last week and took a tour of the Abbey. My husband asked what it looked like inside, and I told him, “Like a bunch of Presbyterians got ahold of it.” OK, compared to a modern concrete Wigwam, it was still beautiful, but there is barely a scrap of the old decoration. At least they’ve put some new stained glass windows in the Nave.

This is the Church I went to in Cincinnati, Old Saint Mary’s:

I was married there and my oldest son was baptised there. They have a fantastic Novus Ordo in Latin and some great parishioners.

It’s a lovely place, but quite shabby. It’s honestly falling down - paint is peeling and there are holes in the ceiling. The parish is in a very Protestant part of town and the building has been vandalized a lot, and the priest harrassed. But, he seems to be a very brave and holy priest and we’re happy to support it.
 
My home parish. I don’t particularly care for the stars, but other than that I like it. It was just redone last year. Missing from this picture, but there now, is the new ambo (style of the altar) and high chair for the priest. There are also two new beautiful statues of St. Thomas Aquinas and Our Lady of the Rosary that can’t be seen from this pic.
