Pieta prayer book?

This is indeed one of THE Most Beautiful Prayer Books I have Ever come across.

The 3 Beautiful Prayers for the dying?
I have said them over a Dear Older Friend in a coma… and when i finishes, i turned to another friend standing there with me and said: “I’d like to be here when/if he goes”… not 2 moments after speaking, he breathed one deep breath. peaceful, and his last.
I’ve said the same Prayers over a man writhing in pain (was an LVN) - As I began the prayers, he became still and quiet… until the Amen. made sure he was given some pain relief, the shift ended until the next day’s began. Then at the start of the next shift i heard he had died the day before. I asked What time?
3:00pm. The hour of Mercy is when God took him.

The Pieta Prayer Book has within it, The Mercy Chaplet, Chaplet of Angels, all prayers approved by the Church. Nothing is off, wrong or against anything whatsoever.

and the 15 Prayers at the beginning? with the 15 promises written for those who say them for A year… as given to St. Bridgette - it is no different than Fatima, Lourdes, inner locutions spoken to 1000’s of people through out the years. It is not necessary to Our Faith to believe in any Private Revelations.

Yet being that i began those 15 prayers this Lent, i can honestly say I have never felt a closer bond to Christ than since beginning these prayers. His Passion never more alive for me, and His Great Merciful Love!

We are told to judge a thing by it’s fruits.
and these fruit are wonderfully beautiful and joyful.

As for the promises St. Bridgette or Saint “whomever” claimed to be told would be received by those who venerate Christ’s Most Holy Wound, or The Drops of His Blood, etc.
Who am I to say they are lies and not promises?
Who am I to judge them any other way - for like Lourdes, Fatima, I was not present. I did not see Mary on those occasions. The promises were never given to me or spoken to me as such.

But really - Who knows they just may be correct and True. Or perhaps not.
But what is the real importance of these prayers, hmm?
The same as with NY Prayer.
To gain a closer walk with God.
and that, these prayers have certainly done. In my life and in the people who have crossed my life.

and also, were they indeed, no question about it pre-Vatican II Council Prayers?
um, forgive me but, so? I do not see that being any point of negativity?
Did not St. Francis still have a beautiful prayer we say to this day? Make me an instrument… Or prayers of St. Augustine? Obviously both Pre-Vatican Council, yes?
That does not take anything away from their beauty or Truth.
and why would they? No indulgences are being bought/sold… Even the very idea of needing to defend such a beautiful collection of prayers is what says more to my heart than anything else. No assault intended here, and certainly not toward anyone specifically.

The Pieta’ Prayer Book was assembled by two americans during their pilgrimage to San Damiano in northwest Italy in the 1970’s. Tom Zimmer and Harry Faulhaber. Tom had a different idea than Harry, he included writings about avoiding alcohol and tobacco and other behaviors that harm us. Harry brought the book back to the US and had it printed so he edited some of the advice Tom had originally included. Harry told Tom that he excluded Tom’s advice to avoid tobacco and alcohol because Harry feared it might “put off” some readers. They tried to make a collection of beautiful prayers that they feared might be lost. Harry died many years ago and Tom died on Sept 10, 2009 in a Veteran’s rest home in Florida. He was 82. Tom spoke 5 languages. He had lived in Italy from the early 1970’s until November of 2008. He spent many years collecting prayers and assembling prayer collections. One of his other books is “Sacro Capo di Gesu” (“The Holy Head of Christ”), printed in italian. The Pieta’ Prayer Book has sold millions of copies but Harry sold them at cost. Tom spent many years in Rome and lived in Loreto, Italy for the last 15years. Tom knew Pope Benedict well and conversed with him in german. Tom encouraged John Paul II to recommend the practice of daily mass and communion. Tom attended over 300,000 masses during his lifetime (he said that the concelebrated mass was the most important invention in he history of the world!).

I just became aware that Tom Zimmer’s cremated remains are in Kentucky now and that he will be buried at a veteran’s cemetery here this week. You seem have known quite a bit about Mr. Zimmer, so I’m imagining you may have known him personally; please feel free to contact me if you would like more information. Thanks.

Carol, there is a version of the Pieta prayer book that has been modified by a controversial group. Two of these modified Pieta books have appeared at my church.

Look on the back. If it has a black and white picture of a tree with this caption underneath, then you need to modify it or get rid of it.
The site near Birmingham, Alabama where Our Lady appeared to Marija (Pavlovic) Lunetti, one of the visionaries of Medjugorje on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1988. During the apparition, Our Lady appeared with 12 stars around Her head. Our Lady promised from this spot to carry all our intentions to the Father. She gave a message to Marija saying: “…I will intercede for you to God for all your intentions.” Since then, tens of thousands have pilgrimaged to this spot with their intentions. Many report receiving special graces and answers to their prayers. Caritas is located on Shelby County Road 43, six miles north of U.S. Highway 280.

Flip the back cover open and look at page 77 and 78. Right underneath the Divine Mercy Prayer, there should be information about the organization that produced it. If you see this information, then you know you definitely have the modified version of the Pieta.

You should be able to get a real Pieta book from a Catholic publisher like the Leaflet Missal company or Ignatius Press.

What I did was look online for the original Pieta book. There are free versions of the original online.

The problem with the modified Pieta book is that it is actually missing some of the original prayers, and some of the prayers have been jumbled around in a different order.

To modify the bad version, cut out the first page.

On the front cover write the My Daily Offering Prayer that begins… “O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy sacrifice of the Mass through out the whole world…” (look online for it)

On page 6, scratch out “and these promises” in the first sentence.

On page 7 and 8, scratch out the 15 Promises associated with the Saint Bridget prayers.

On page 19, The top half of the page is associated with the bottom letter under the title of Glory be to Jesus and Mary. Simply draw an arrow pointing from the top paragraph to the information below.

On page 47, underneath the Prayer to the Shoulder Wound of Christ the words “This Prayer was not meant to replace confession” was removed. Simply write it in the margin of this page.

Also, the bottom paragraph that starts “It is related in the annals of Clairvaux that St. Bernard asked…” is related to the prayer above. It originally preceded the prayer. Simply draw an arrow pointing to the paragraph above.

On page 75, scratch out the bottom line that begins “For a free audio cassette About Our Lady call…”. This is a number for the organization in question.

On page 78 and 79, simply cut or scratch out all the information advertising the organization below the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy.

On the back cover, write the last prayer that was removed and replaced by the advertisement.

The prayer…

"A prayer which would release 1,000 souls from purgatory each time it is said.

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from purgatory each time it is said.

Recommendations: Pray it at least twice to at least release twice as many souls! After the prayer, ask the Holy Souls to pray for your intentions.

Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of Thy Son Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Amen."

On the back cover, mark out the caption and leave the picture of the tree.

Once you’ve done this, you now have a fully restored Pieta book like the originals you used to see as a kid.
 
I just purchased this book today, I absolutely love the prayers!

I did a quick search to see what everyone on CAF thought of it and was a bit surprised to see some of the negative comments.:confused: My book has “Our Lady of Czestocchowa” on the back. Does anyone know if this is an updated issue?
 
I have had mine for 2 years, use it every day, it is nearly worn out already.

I buy extra copies and give them away. I would rather have new people saying these prayers than worry about some of the wording you people who love to pick things apart worry about.

Those who love to pick things apart, please go away.
 
I have piles of these prayer books… I keep copies at home, in my bag, in my car and in my office. Only because I am so forgetful 🙂

When I went through this thread, I noticed so much attention given to what’s right and what’s wrong and what’s approved and what’s not approved. Personally, I love the 15 Prayers of St Bridget because praying them makes me feel so calm and happy deep inside.

Why not just look at the beautiful words and use them to help us communicate with God? Doesn’t matter much where the words came from and who said them and who wrote them. Besides, if one is to research every single prayer and track down its origins, one would have to be prepared to spend time and energy in ‘work’. Better to spend that time and energy in prayer.

Let’s just pray. This book is as good as any. If you don’t like it, then use another.

This prayer book has been in my back pocket since the early 1990’s. I realize the ‘promises’ attached to some of the enclosed prayers in unique to many of us. But for one thing, recall The Brown Scapular and The Promise Mary made about those who would wear One through out their lives. The Promise Christ Himself made to the ‘good’ thief asked (just like a prayer, since asked of Jesus directly) to remember him - Jesus of course Solemnly assured the man he’d be with him in Paradise.

The Pieta Prayer Book does indeed have some Prayers with their promises given and written down underneath them. Is this something odd or different? No. Not at all. Just a continuation of the above examples, to other people on other days. Nothing written is against Church Doctrine, one of the easiest ways to weed-out fraudulent books. And of course, the question of “Does it bear Fruit?” and what kind good or bad?
  • It has been my experience when praying over the dying that it brought comfort and Peace to those screaming in pain, stopped during the reading of the Three Beautiful Prayers. Another took his final breath and entered forward to the next life.

I’d like to add if I may, that even in disagreement, I believe insults and other means of defenses only cause people pain. No growth, no learning, nothing positive since insults breed more insults, or other means of cruelty. If discussion is what you’ve come here to do, from any stand point or view, it is indeed possible to do so with honor and respect. Most when they come across personal attacks stop reading it - making those that write these types of things simply wasting their own times and everyone else’s.

Always be Honest in your views and opinions -
As well as Never be Afraid of Truth.
To be afraid of what the truth might show - that it might show your beliefs as false - and to live ones life like this is akin to not ever living at all.
If you live in cruelty/meanness towards others - or Fear in general - emptiness is all there is down that route. Nothing more.
And The Pieta Prayer Book is one of the great ones to help you pray your way closer to God. i.e. Closer to The Truth it’s self.

And yes, unfortunately a large number of the claims are so vague as to be unidentifiable, or unapproved - which is a shame, because some of the prayers are nice and I do say them. It’d be nice to know there were benefits attached, but never mind 🙂

Weeeell, I had this book growing up. I think the prayers are beautiful, but (I don’t know if this is a sin or not, I’m sure someone will flame me if it is…) I never really put much stock into earning “indulgences” so I never pay attention to that. I just used to say the prayers to say the prayers. I think that if people do things or say prayers for indulgences, that they get a false sense of security (and a bit arrogant, and holier than thou…sorry!!!) and don’t try to earn heaven on their own enough. Just MOHO…I wouldn’t get rid of the book just for the prayers in it. Just don’t pay attention to the undocumented claims of indulgences…But if you think the book isn’t worth keeping or it bothers you, get rid of it. There are many prayer books that contain many beautiful prayers and novenas in them.
 
I use the Pieta and have wondered about that myself, but check the second paragraph on page 1. Remember that these a priviate revelations, they have been presented to help you grow in devotion to God and our Blessed Mother.

The vast majority of this book IS documented by either the Imprimatur, Nihil Obstat, “Indulgenced By” some Pope, or come from a revelation of a saint. We should not pray so much for what we may receive as for growing in our relationship with God.
There are some who are worried about a particular sentence about less graces received when Mass is said by an “unworthy” priest, this particular page is NOT referenced by Church approval, HOWEVER, I found one website that says that this statement is backed in the Summa and that would certainly mean it is NOT heresy as many assume from their limited understanding.

I answer that, There are two things to be considered in the mass. namely, the sacrament itself, which is the chief thing; and the prayers which are offered up in the mass for the quick and the dead. So far as the mass itself is concerned, the mass of a wicked priest is not of less value than that of a good priest, because the same sacrifice is offered by both.

Again, the prayer put up in the mass can be considered in two respects: first of all, in so far as it has its efficacy from the devotion of the priest interceding, and in this respect there is no doubt but that the mass of the better priest is the more fruitful.*

A decretal is a papal decree. By papal decree the same words as Muter Vogel’s have been said! And St. Thomas’ words in the Summa are the same too!

Those who try to say this is heresy are just plain wrong!

Everything does not have to be directly approved by the Church to be okay, we must of course exercise caution if it is not.

I read this and thought it would be appropriate posted here! I am doing the 15 Prayers and don’t plan to stop as Fr Casmir says pray them for one year and most certainly one would be blessed!

I did the 15 Prayers of St Bridget for a year and experienced blessings from Day One! I also experienced things that made me wonder maybe the promises were true after all.

And my experiences motivated me to type the Pieta prayer book. Took me 5 years and assists from cousin and god daughter. But finally it is DONE.
