Hi all!

I’m an American study abroad student in Ireland right now.
Just got back from Croagh Patrick; it was a wonderful experience!

Since I’m here until Christmas, I figure that I ought to check out other sites. Any recommendations? I’m strongly considering Knock.

God Bless!

Croagh Patrick? Is that the “Purgatory of St. Patrick”?

If so, wow!

Knock, in County Mayo, is possibly Ireland’s premier pilgrimage point. It is the town where the BVM appeared with Saint Joseph, the Lamb of God, and six angels, in 1879.

If you have not already been, you should visit Glendalough (in County Dublin), once one of Ireland’s great monasteries; and see the Book of Kells, now kept at Trinity University, Dublin.

ICXC NIKA.

St. Brendan’s monastery in Clonfert, and also St. Brigid’s in Kildare.

Don’t be put off by the junk vendors in Knock. The locals are afraid to tell people they can’t do it. But it’s all junk.
The actual Gift Shop is better. Our farm is 15 mins from there, and we can view Croagh Patrick from the back acreage of our farm. Gorgeous country.

Mount Mellary in Co.Waterford where Our Lady appeared.in 1985 there is also a beautiful Abbey there and not to far from there is St Patricks well in Clonmel Co. Tipperary where St. Patrick baptized many.

Mt. Mellary is not an approved apparition site. Most telling to me was that the “visionaries” stated that Our Lady sang “Peace is Flowing Like a River” with them.
Ummm, I have serious doubts about that. But there are PLENTY of sites to visit in Ireland.
Many that are ancient and really peaceful. There are many monasteries in ruin that are gorgeous. Burriscara is lovely.
There is a St. Patrick’s well at Ballintubber in Mayo also. Have a wonderful vacation!

Thats great to konw. Thanks for sharing! How much time should I allot for Knock? A day? Day and a half?

Medjugorje is not approved yet pilgrims from all over the world visit it. Although Mt. Mellary has never been approved, the Vatican has not come out against it. I have been there many times and its a beautiful, peaceful place where people gather abd say the rosary. I have never seen anything being done that is not in accordance with the church.

You might want to consider Lough Derg in Donegal–its a place of pilgrimage and fasting, also called St. Patrick’s Purgatory They have one and three day programs. But nothing’s available in the winter. Here’s their website loughderg.org/about-us

As to Knock, I don’t think you’d need more than a day there.
