Pilgrimage cost

My wife and I are thinking about trying to make a pilgrimage to Fatima happen sometime before 17 October of this year (for obvious reasons) and were wondering if anyone had any data on approximate costs for things on the ground?

We were hoping to make it relatively quick and cheap, not with a tour group, and only going to Fatima. I am in the military, so I will be able to get from the US to either England or Germany for free, and the plane back will also cost us nothing. So all we need to know is about how much we should expect to spend on getting from England to Fatima and back, paying for lodging and meals for the two of us and our young daughters.

Worst-case scenario, if my wife isn’t able to come, I would be going with another young man (about my age) and we would be looking to make it the cheapest, quickest possible trip. So in the interest of crunching numbers, does anyone know where I can find that data?
 
I’d recommend a travel website such as Expedia dot com to see prices as well as availability and ratings for accommodations. Tripadvisor dot com is also a good site for travel reviews or asking questions like best way to travel between point A and point B; they also have some accommodations as they are trying to get into bookings, but I still prefer to just use Tripadvisor for reviews and Expedia for actually booking hotels.

Be warned that Fatima is likely to be extremely busy this summer and fall up to the date of the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, so they may have less accommodations than usual in town.
 
Booking.com has a large number of hotels in Fatima , but I have never used them. There seem to be a number of budget airlines in Europe as well
 
I’ve used Booking dot com for accommodations in Europe. It’s decent. Be sure to take note of any cancellation policies on websites you might use, and don’t use any website where they will not show you the exact name and location of the hotel until the last minute, as you might get stuck with something more distant than what you need.
 
Try catching a hop into Rota Spain…puts you closer to Fatima. And there may be tours out of the base to the Fatima shrine.
 
Many religious orders there run guest lodging and often includes breakfast. Expect clean and simple accommodations- 2 star hotel, maybe 20 euro a night per person (however, I went while there weren’t many pilgrims). Everything is within walking distance there, so no need to rent a car. Portuguese currency is far less than the US or U.K., so your money will go far.

You could fly into Lisbon or Oporto and take a bus to Fatima. Also, the town of Santarem is a short train or bus ride away, it is where a Eucharistic miracle occurred and may exposed for people to see.
 
If you could get a military flight to Lajes, Azores, then a local shuttle to Lisbon, would that be cheaper?

So after a lot of prayer and a few changes of plans, we ended up purchasing the tickets to London, which will be our base of operations, as my uncle lives there, so we can stay for free. Our intent is to stay in Fatima for two nights, and I was wondering if anyone who’s been there before can recommend a cheap place to stay? So far, it’s just my dad and me, but we may have 1-2 other men joining us. We will be roughing it, fasting, bringing the minimum of necessities, so we don’t mind staying somewhere austere, but would also like to be close to everything (within walking distance of a few miles would be awesome).

Any more help or advice would be awesome!
