Pilgrimage trip to Poland, I have a couple questions

I’m getting ready to go on a pilgrimage trip to Poland and I was interested in seeing the shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe, which I understand is a relatively new shrine and is about 40 km from Warsaw. Has anyone been there and have any advice on getting to and from the shrine from Warsaw?

I also want to see the tomb of Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko, but that seems much easier as it’s right in Warsaw.
 
Haven’t been there, but you may take the train.
Shrine of St. Maximillian Kolbe is located in Paprotnia (Teresin)

Get on the train on the station “Warszawa Śródmieście”. Get off in Teresin. They go regularly (once every hour approx.). Price: $4 more or less. Tickets & info: mazowieckie.com.pl/.

There’s a 15 minute walk from the train station to The Shrine of Our Mary Immaculate and St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Thank you. Have you taken the trains in Poland, if so how are they? I have used trains in Germany, Netherlands and UK, but not tried a Polish train yet.

If they really do “go regularly” I am less concerned but of course no one wants to get stuck in a strange place and separated from the rest of the group, as I think I will be doing this during the “free time” from the group activity.

I haven’t personally, but my parents have, and they said everything goes smooth with no problems. I found this on Lonely Planet about trains in Poland: “Polish trains are somewhat like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates – you never know what you’ll get until it arrives”. You can get the most modern trains you have ever seen, or communist-era carriages. However, the company you will be travelling with have updated most of their fleet.

Warszawa Śródmieście station is located right next to the Central Station. This station is reserved for the smaller commuter trains.

The walk from Teresin station to the shrine is a no-problem from what I can see from Google Street View. You will see the church (almost) immediately. Ask a local to point you in the right direction, and there you go, follow the main street. This is a small place, you can’t get lost. And besides, adventures are fun!
