Pious stories, fairytales and lies

We all know that fairytales are completely made up, and are stories. They may have a message. The listener generally knows from the beginning its a story and never happened. But they are entertaining.

Pius stories are sometimes told as being something that actually happened. People believe them, and believe in them. But they never happened.

If I say something that isnt true, and I know it isnt true, but I actively want others to believe it, its a lie.

A lie is a sin.

Are Pious stories, intended for the faithful to belive, when they are patently not true, lies?
 
Pious legends draw on a truth but exaggerate it to bring forth another truth. For example:
