The report is that the churches of St. Joseph, St. Henry and St. Canice are in line to be sold this fall by the hilltop St. John Vianney parish.

Just the newest of a long list of Catholic church buildings to be sold to other entities in Pittsburgh.

St. John the Baptist is now a brewpub. St. Michael’s is now condos, St. Elizabeth of Hungary a nightclub, St. Wenceslaus a day care centre, St. Wilburga a baptist church and old St. Mary’s a wedding hall.

How sad! Any plans about Immaculate Heart of Mary? I know it was on a hit list about 20 years ago, but was still going last time I checked. Would break my heart if it closed.

When visiting a friend of mine in PGH, I visited the church that overlooked the city on Mt. Washington. Is that one gonna be gone? 😦

St. Elizabth of Hungary, a niteclub? BOOOO. I’m half Hungarian and that makes me SAD! :crying: :crying:

Both Immaculate Heart of Mary and Mary of the Mount are still open, and there are no plans to close them at this point. The only churches that closed this year are in Ambridge, and the Hilltop area of Pittsburgh. Two churches in the Southside are only open for weddings and funerals. These areas are just loosing population. Its a shame that they are closing, but you really do not need 4 church buildings for a 1000 people
