Any news?
Well, today I finally got a response from our priest. I received the following e-mail:

"Hi:

I am reponding for Fr. **** ******** regarding any Latin masses in our area.

He does not see it in the near future – he has not received any directives

from our Diocese on this yet. I hope this answers your question.

(the church secretary)"

ACH!!! Doesn’t he know that he doesn’t need any directives??!!! Or is he just making excuses?

A very disappointed (but not surprised),

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but I figured since my question is related… Does anyone know where I can get bumper stickers, etc. for the TLM and/or the PLMC online? I’ve tried to find some, but haven’t been able to come up with anything.

Thanks!

I found one at St. Boniface in Pittsburgh if you are nearby.
It says “I :heart:the Latin mass.” (no pulsing heart of course)

Aren’t there places where you can have your own made?

How about -
“LATIN MASS-better the second time around” or
LATIN Mass LOVER. or
FEAR NOT the Latin Mass. or

“THE LATIN MASS - come and see…
Ite missa est.”
“If you can read this, you can understand the Latin mass.”

I could be a bumper sticker TLM evangelist.
Just an aside: Did you hear about the guy on the motorcycle whose jacket said "If you can read this - my girlfriend fell off! hahaha

No bumper stickers. But I will be visiting St Boniface July 12th on vacation. Its a beautiful church.

I have some. PM me a mailing address and I’ll ship them out. I got them from the back of St. Boniface awhile ago and they are just sitting in my room.

Indeed.

My wife and I were married there in '04 (in a High Latin Mass, I might add). People always complain that their wedding “just flew by” in a whirlwind. Let me tell you; when you’re kneeling for 2 straight hours, you are quite aware of every minute of your wedding. :). I actually appreciate it now. After lawschool we moved to Squirrel Hill and go to Holy Spirit (Ruthenian Byzantine) on 5th Avenue, but I wouldn’t mind going back to catch a TLM every now and then.

To any HW parishoners – how’s Father Myers these days?

Anyway, I heard from another member of this forum that three priests and a group of people from the Greensburg diocese went to the bishop, several years ago, about an Indult Mass. That’s how I know there are three priests. I don’t have any names.
I know one of the priests. He is retired, and living in Pittsburgh now.

Is there any new word on the EF in Greensburg? I heard through the grapevine that some people are getting a petition together to send to Ecclesia Dei.

As of this date, we are preparing to send an appeal to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Levada. It will chronicle the events from 2005 when Bishop Brandt turned down the 450 petitioners to the present time when he even refused to meet and accept additional petitions. He continues to cite the shortage of Novus Ordo Priests and lements the closing of churches in the Diocese. He stated the objections of the Priests Council as well. Three questions beg an answer. Do Bishops dictate to the Holy Father? Do priests’ dictate to the Bishop? Since traditional priests are available, what does the shortage of Novus Ordo Priests have to do with the TLM? Keep our efforts in your prayers. 👍

That is what I have wondered. There are all kinds of empty church buildings in the diocese now. Why doesn’t Bishop Brandt invite in the FSSP or other traditionalist group to come in and take over one - or several - of those churches?

Also, there are others of us out here who didn’t sign the petition but would have if they’d known about it. There would have been more than 450.

Thank you for the update! I was wondering if anything further was being done. I pray, every day, for a return of the TLM to the diocese.

Blessings,

Register and become a member of PLMC and they will send you a membership packet with bumperstickers and information about the EF Mass. Also, I do believe Leaflet Missal Company has the “I Love The Latin Mass” Bumper sticker.

Pittsburgh has an approved indult Mass. St. Boniface Church is a wonderful old building that was scheduled to be torn down when they built a North South highway years ago. Todays Mass was wonderful. We thank God that the TLM is available to us even occasionally.
It was a wonderful experience for those of us that live some distance to attend the TLM. I just keep praying that our Greensburg Bishop will let us have one closer then this.
I have had the same sentiments that I highlighted above…feeling so blessed that I have a Latin Mass I can attend…once a week. However, seeing it said in black & white…by a person who loves this Mass, but is only able to attend it occasionaly…prompted me to comment.

First of all, It is no longer an “indult” Mass. Pope Benedict has given us permission to worship at the TLM. We don’t have to request it from the Bishop.

[SIGN] You’ll find the proper way to request this Mass at the following site:
ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/b16SummorumPontificum.htm
Art. 5. § 1 In parishes, where there is a stable group of faithful who adhere to the earlier liturgical tradition, the pastor should **willingly accept **their requests to celebrate the Mass according to the rite of the Roman Missal published in 1962, and ensure that the welfare of these faithful harmonises with the ordinary pastoral care of the parish, under the guidance of the bishop in accordance with canon 392, avoiding discord and favouring the unity of the whole Church. [/SIGN]

If your request for a regularly scheduled TLM is denied, there are answers & ways to proceed. You have the right to pray this Mass, and that right was given to you by the POPE, himself.

The fact is…the US Bishops are NOT cooperating with him re Summorum Pontificum. Those on this forum who are constantly saying, “I follow my Bishop, My Bishop says it’s OK”., etc., ETC., need to take a long, hard look at that document & the hierarchy’s reaction to it. What we are seeing here in the US., are Bishops who are doing their very best to deny you something that the Pope, himself, has given to you.

What you say is true. However, more than one priest has said to our group. “It’s up to the Bishop.” Can he still say the TLM…yes. Will he? No! Because he fears the Bishops wrath. First he loses his parish. He gets transferred more often than other priests. He is avoided by other priests who don’t want it to look like they agree with him and become a target of the Bishop. etc etc. As an aside…get this. Recently at a NO mass, the pastor said, “How many of you want to go back to pre VII when the priest said mass facing the wall?” How about that for priestly formation? Wasn’t the tabernacle containing the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ in front of him? I was floored! Would I want him celebrating the TLM…I think not!

I’m relatively new to the TLM, and I find this um, hostility? really puzzling. I wonder why they would be so against the Latin mass.

There is a book called “The Rhine Flows Into the Tiber”…it was a hard read for me. However, it gives you a background of Vatican II. It certainly is an eye opener. It’s worth reading and passing on as I did. Unfortunately I never got it back. 😃

Is it true that the Institute of Christ the King offers a mass monthly somewhere in Pittsburgh? I believe there will be a Mass offered by them on December 11, but at this time I do not know which church it will be at. There just aren’t enough priests at this time to fill all invitations on a permanent basis.

I don’t know about monthly, but there is occasionally one celebrated at St Titus Church in Aliquippa PA.

From my experience, and IMOP they are afraid because the more the EF is being said the people would want it more. The Latin Mass Society of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest and largest Latin Mass Communities in the United States. The Latin Mass Community is part of Holy Wisdom Parish on Pittsburgh’s North Side. They share St. Boniface Church building with the OF. As of now the Register members of the Latin Mass community is higer than the OF Members.

Also the Ruberics are more strict so it is hard to “experiment and innovate it”, and as said on these boards, the Mass is more Reverent and has a Mystic to it. It is equal to the beauty of the Eastern Rite and Orthodox “Devine Liturgy”.

The truth about that statement is: the celebrating priest was more like one of us, then. We ALL faced the Tabernacle, we ALL faced the large crucifix that hung on the high altar. You might want to tell the priest you mentioned above that having someone pray AT you, isn’t nearly as inspiring as having a priest that will pray WITH you.

I know that no one, including me, wants to rock the boat…but, unless we let Rome know about this…after all other avenues are explored,of course, we will lose something that is precious. It’s precious to us & to God, I believe. Please have a look at this site. It tells one how to proceed when your pastor has refused to pray the TLM. & how to do so graciously & with respect for all.

Actually the Priest facing the Tabernacle was NOT turning his back on the congregation, he was NOT talking to the wall, the Priests of today just like the Apostles and the Church Fathers were leading the people in prayer and worship of our Heavenly Father in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

The Men called by God, are as much leaders, as they are of service to the Faithful, in God’s Holy Name. We simply have let Satan’s liberal minions in the modern culture and media twist things around and completely distort the real meaning and purpose of Traditional Catholicism.
