There is a purported quote from St. Pius X which I came across in my Baronius Press 1962 Missal, which reads:
The Holy Mass is a prayer itself, even the highest prayer that exists. It is the Sacrifice, dedicated by our Redeemer at the Cross, and repeated every day on the Altar. If you wish to hear Mass as it should be heard, you must follow with eye, heart and mouth all that happens at the Altar. Further, you must pray with the Priest the holy words said by him in the Name of Christ and which Christ says by him. You have to associate your heart with the holy feelings which are contained in these words and in this manner you ought to follow all that happens at the Altar. When acting in this way you have prayed Holy Mass.
However, my attempts to source this have come up dry. Anyone know where this is from? It’s oft-quoted, but never cited.

“Dubious”? Isn’t it rather simply lacking provenance? I see a huge difference. The words themselves are completely consistent with the Saint of humility (my designation).

Sure. I just like to know that the person cited as having said something actually said it, or is at least likely to have said it.

(I changed the title of the thread to avoid similar parsing going forward.)

Until and unless one has read each and every recorded comment of Pope Saint Pius X regarding the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it will be quite difficult to provide the provenance. An email to Baronius might very well clear this matter up. They may possess internal documents which reveal the origins of the quote.
