Gail,
As a regular contributor to the New York Times Readers Forum, I often post links to articles by conservative columnist Ms. N. Beaujon. As a newspaper columnist myself and a colleague of N. Beaujon I was shocked to find that on May 1st Nicholas D. Kristof plagiarized Ms. Beaujon’s April 26th article “The Locust Generation”
(http://www.nbeaujon.com/locusts.htm ) in his article “The Greediest Generation” ( http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/01/opinion/01kristof.html ). Some would say that plagiarism or inspiration is the sincerest form of flattery; I think it demonstrates a soft and uncreative mind. What is happening to the New York Times, which has rapidly descended from our nation’s premiere newspaper to a national joke? I expect that an investigation of Mr. Kristof’s writing take place promptly. And that an apology be published in the Times at the conclusion of this investigation.
Thank you,
William John Hagan
