Plan to stop calls by "forced" prayer?

It does get me a bit ticked that they make so much money off people like me that they can send me tons of glossy advertisements and have telemarketers calling.

I never did understand why the post office spends so much money advertising either! Stamps/postage would be cheaper if they didnt!

I know what you mean. They should just buy commercial space on T.V. or in the newspaper and then if people are interested, they’ll call them. It’d save them tons of money on personnel that they hire to make the annoying phone calls and/or the amount they spend on paper to make flyers for each and every mailbox in the country.

Who said anything about tying yourself up in knots about it? It’s actually kinda fun!!! :bounce:
How is it fun to attempt to force people to pray, faith is not to be forced? How is it fun to mess people about who are only trying to earn a living? How is it fun to not recognise the other person at the end of the phone is the ‘face of Christ’?

It isn’t fun. There are certainly better ways to get fun in life.

Are people too important to get phone calls they don’t want, is their time more important than anyone elses?

It is a grosse abuse of prayer to use it as a tool suggested by the OP.

Get an answer machine and screen unwanted telephone calls and as other posters have said, if you do pick up the phone just politely decline and hang up.

I said nothing about making them pray. Plus, to the OP who WAS trying to get them to pray, she wasn’t holding a gun to their head or anything. They could hang up and then everything is fine. Telemarketers chose that job, no one made them. If they don’t like getting grumpy/rude people, maybe they should consider a new line of work because I, for one, hate being interrupted during “family time” with my hubby and son. If I get an answering machine, all they do is leave a message and then I have to listen to it EVERY time I want to get to my other messages. HIGHLY ANNOYING!!!

Patience is a virtue.
Allright Blessedstar- I’ll get an answering machine and then when my elderly grandmother calls who does not “get it” that it is a machine she is talking to I wont worry about her thinking something is wrong with me since I’m not answering her questions about her meds!

I am sorry about your grandmother, I can see you cannot have an answer machine in your case. My grandparents don’t understand answer machines either, who can expect them to at over 90 years of age.

I am sure there is a solution for you without you resorting to the unacceptable measures you have suggested. Get a phone that displays who is calling, I used to have one and it was very good for screening calls.

Try that.

I’ll try that. I really didnt think it was a bad thing. I mean, if I were the telemarketer I’d think of it as a motivator to pick up a pen and mark the file as “do not call this crazy person” -
Then they would stop. But just saying, hey dont call me has not worked.

The most sane person in the world is a person of prayer.🙂 But we don’t want to use prayer in some whacko way to turn people off, that’s perhaps not the best policy.

Perhaps you might like to pray for those people who earn their living by those endless arduous cold calls to people who don’t want to receive them and often face abuse and unkindness.

I hope you find a good solution for you and your family.🙂

In my prayers

Huh, do you have ANY idea how much commercial space on television costs these days? Try calling a TV station and finding out.

And even then you’d probably complain about more TV ads if they did take your suggestion 😛

Well, yeah it is more money I’m sure - but at least they arent wasting paper products and clogging up my mailbox or calling that way. I wish the post office wouldnt advertise at all except for rate increases.

How about caller id?

I would not use something as sacred in such a manner, it just seems profain to me. Using the threat of prayer to scare people who are doing a job off.

How about if someone actually agrees to this, will you do the prayer with them and then buy or are you just lieing?

Is this really a good use of prayer? Actually it isn’t because it is only being used as a threat.

The people calling you can not “screw up” any orders you make as they are most likely a whole different department and if they could then maybe this isn’t a company that you should be dealing with in the first place.

Also an answering machine can be used to screen calls. A telemarketer will ignore it and hang up. If your grandmother calls you will hear her talking and you can pick up the phone.

:amen:

I’ve worked as a telemarketer. Don’t you think they have enough problems to deal with with all the outright abuse they get without the shenanigans listed above? If you’re not interested just save everyone time and headaches by saying so politely and briefly and hanging up. For all you know they’re calling back purposely to annoy you BECAUSE you made some smartaleck response to them. I never did that because I’m nice - not everyone is.

If you’re getting a lot of calls from the same company don’t waste time getting irate at the caller - they are so low down on the pecking order they aren’t worth wasting the breath on. Just ask to speak to their supervisor or manager and tell them you don’t want any further marketing calls from the company.
Maybe it’s different in Oz. I only use a cell phone now so no mor telemarketers, but when I still had a land line, I would get upwards of two dozen calls a day, and simply saying “Thanks, but I’m not interested” never did the trick. If anything, the fact that I didn’t just slam the phone down seemed to spur them on to further pitches. In a few instances (after repeat calls that amounted to harassment) I had to threaten the supervisors with legal action to get the calls to stop.

Getting creative may be a bit over the top, but it’s still more polite than slamming down the phone.

Well the OP did say
if they do it with me I am prepared to go ahead with the purchase.
So the telemarketer actually has a chance of making the sale. Even so, I think this method might make Christians look bad, something whould should be taken into consideration.

Syele,

I agree it might make Christians look bad. But- we are known for prayer. Its not like she can say, wow - she wanted to pray- go figure!

Now, I know this is a “creative” way to do it. But, a lot of Christians could be accused of “creative” ways to do things. I’m sure if the telemarketer who did not like the request could find ONE Christian to do it in the room!
If they dont want to pray to get a sale- they dont need the sale. Unless it violates their faith to pray those prayers, Why not?
I was in sales. I could tell you that most people in sales do a whole lot they dont really want to do to get and keep the client. Within reason.
I’m sure they get more money if they do. So really all I’m asking them to do is ask themselves how bad they want the sale.
Sounds American enough.
Or at least motivate the person to mark my file and put DO NOT CALL on it.
Thats all I’m asking for.

Byz Cath,

I like your imput, but could you at the very least read all the posts before making silly responses like this?
I adressed most of this earlier!

I did read all your posts and I do not see any answers to the issues I raised which is why I asked them.

But heck, if you wish to resort to silly and childish use of prayer, then who am I to question you on it anyways.

On that note, I think my time can be better spent else where around here but I will say it one more time.

I believe it is a mistake to use the threat of prayer when you do not intend to go through with it if they respond in the positive. It is seems very profain and sacrilegious to use something as sacred as communication with God in such a manner.

Byz Cath,
With all due respect and charity, Did you see post #1? Even Syele pointed it out-
You keep saying I will not intend to go through with it -
Did you miss post #1?
I AM willing to go through with the purchase.
Do you understand that now?
If you dont think someone should pray to make a sale, I agree!
They can opt to NOT make the sale!
Get it?
