Could it be that Mother Teresa is being used as a political weapon?
Several residents told Reuters they felt there was an underground effort to treat Shkoder as a Catholic town, ignoring its majority Muslim community.

The place where the statue is planned is nowhere near her birthplace, which may or may not be in Albania or Macedonia.
 
I just don’t see what the problem is with this. People can be so obnoctious.

So what?! Honestly…it’s not like Muslims never force their religion on others. Also, Bl. Teresa of Calcutta was very tolerant of other religions. These people need to grow up!

from the article:

“We do not want this statue to be erected in a public place because we see her as a religious figure,” said Bashkim Bajraktari, Shkoder’s mufti or Muslim religious leader.

“If there must be a statue, let it be in a Catholic space.”

This seems a not unreasonable position. Isn’t that the way we do it here in the US, statues of saints on church grounds but not on government property?
 
Wow this statement says it all…

But men in one Shkoder bar said they would prefer a monument to an Albanian fighter who blew himself up in order to avoid being captured by enemy Serbs, or even to two Ottoman-era pashas remembered fondly in Shkoder.

they would rather have a statue of a some one who committed suicide then a women who was accepted by all religions…
 
Let’s get the beam out of our own eye before we comment on the speck in someone else’s.

New Orleans, LA has a law that says schools cannot be named for slave owners. That means no Washington High School. No Taylor, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, or Jackson schools.

Muslims are not unique in getting upset when someone is honored in violation of their value systems.

What is we threw a big burka over the statues of Washington, Jefferson, Taylor, or Madison; would it be OK then?
