Planned Parenthood, LDI, Microsoft

I got my copy of Life Decisions International’s boycott list of donators to Planned Parenthood and Microsoft is on the list. What do you think: switch to Mac or keep the PC but don’t buy any more MS stuff and allow myself to count toward their user count and hope that in the end my New-Media-major self will counteract that support in ways Apple’s 5% of the computer market can’t (Y’know, with compatibility, exclusive programs, etc)?
 
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the only way to “boycott” Microsoft is to get rid of pretty much everything you own with a microchip. That’s going to include your mobile phone, your dishwasher, microwave, automobile, most likely, and a host of other things that have data storage. Your computer is the least of it.
 
Microsoft makes chips for all that stuff? I had no idea. How do I tell who makes the chip for a given device?

You don’t.

Look, you want to deal with the morality issue think about this: for everything in Western culture that has a microchip in it, some family in one or another African country was slain by invaders taking their lands to mine for rare minerals used in their manufacture. Those minerals used to have little worth. Then came the computer revolution. That is: cell phones caused genocide. Basically.

No one is going to stop anything about Planned Parenthood by thinking they can boycott Microsoft. You could make a few financial sacrifices and start feeding and clothing people who are alive and dying horrendous painful deaths from starvation. We could just feed the hungry like Jesus said. Try Mercy Corps. Save the Children.

Buying an Apple computer doesn’t make anyone a hero. Hating Planned Parenthood, or anything or anyone, doesn’t make someone a Christian.
