Unfortunately that is simply not true. Ectopic pregnancies, Severe preeclampsia, eclampsia, thrombosis, HELLP, disseminated intravascular coagulopathy, placental abruption, etc.
Sigh.

Ectopic pregnancies are covered at length in Catholic Moral Teaching.

The other situations you suggest all have modern medical interventions that can be put in place. Will they always work, no, but we can never ever ever ever ever ever directly kill a preborn child.

I’d also add that there are higher risks for severe preeclampsia if condoms are used.

I read the other posts. If killing the rapists child is aprropriate in the case he impregnates his victim why wouldnt it be appropriate to kill his children if he does not impregnate her? After all the whole premise seems to be to punish a chid for the sins of their father.
 If you have read the posts, from your choice to quote mine you clearly feel what you are saying is relevant – very simply WHY??.

IMO i counter you didn’t bother to read them at all because if you did i can see NO REASON why you believe it appropriate relevant or even on topic to respond as you have.

Only YOU have stated a premise that “punish a child for the sins of the father” i am curious how exactly is your comment relevent.

The point i was making was i hope i never see a situation like this is my job, as i think you would have be extremely cold hearted not to feel unbelievable sympathy and horror at what that young girl will have experienced and will still have to experience with a unwanted, pregnancy as a constant companion to her memories of her experience if only until birth.
A child is not necessarily equipped to process horror such as this and the added issues of pregnancy that can be so very dangerous for them physically and emotionally. Imagine if you can your 12 year old daughter, or someone you know of that age, are they truly able to segregate their bodies journey in pregnancy from the horror of what caused the conception? It’s a big ask of anyone let alone a child.
You seem to be advocating allowing abortion in case of rape. Am i mistaken?

Wouldnt seeing the rapist’s children affect her emotionally? Is she equipped to handle this? Wouldnt the rapist children be a constant reminder of her experience?

:banghead: SIGH

Nothing like a misquote to try and justify your response.

You have taken one part of a conversation and not looked at it in totality. AT NO POINT do i advocate abortion. I simply put a hypothetical scenario from my graduate course’s ethic class on the table for discussion.

You would be a stone statue if as an adult you thought a brutal gang rape of a 13yr old child would have no emotional impact and that the coping skills of said child would be no different to a fully mature adult.

The response you quote so misguidedly was in response to another commentator who stated their experience that WOMEN find redemption in giving birth in this circumstance and they feel it would be a further “rape” to have an abortion … i simply responded that CHILDREN may not have that emotional strength to compartmentalize what happened to them away from their pregnancy.

I would ask you read ALL the posts as your comments are unbelievably insulting and unrepresentative of what i have said. 😦

Nobody said it was not a terrible situation for the victim. The only thing that could compound the tragedy is to kill the child. There is not a single argument advanced to abort this child that does not equally apply to any other children the rapist has. Perhaps you should point that out in your ethics class

No what you said was I advocated abortion and I was defending the right to kill a baby and need to compare it to killing other children.

YOU WERE WRONG … what you should be saying is “i’m sorry i took your comments out of context and i was mistaken”!!!

The fact that you aren’t and even now are trying to justify your misguided interpretation of this conversation by suggesting i should bring it up in my ethics class is abhorrent behavior.

There is NO CHANCE i’d bring this point up as i would be laughed out of the class because your point is so far off topic the only vague connection is the shared use of the letters abort (in the scenario the word abortion was used) and thats it. This irrelevant grand gesturing to get an unnecessary point across detracts from the comments/conversation.

I’ve been a practicing Catholic my whole life…i find your comments and inability to stay on point just embarrassing as a Catholic. Your rush to make an inappropriate comparison that is highly emotive does nothing more than make people question are ability to look beyond the word abortion to the context it was used in … you prove this yourself. You jumped on a bandwagon of condemnation and have yet to even comment that you were mistaken and the point is irrelevant to the quote you used to state it with.

 I can absolutely understand why non-Catholics get fed up with comments and posturing like this.

I can not be bothered to respond in full to you, you will simply ignore your own mistakes and misguided comments and try to deflect yet again. (And since my post insisting you apologize was removed whats the point??)

Unfortunately too many Catholics behave like this and then are surprised when people choose to turn their back on the Catholic Faith.
