I am beginning to think about what I will give up for lent this year. I would like to do something different than the typical “swearing off chocolates or alcohol or desserts.” I am looking for ideas. What types of things have you done that were especially meaningful and were a bit out of the ordinary?

Thanks for the reminder, Ash Wednesday March 1 is coming upon us.

Scripture study and visiting the Confession booth I’ve found especially meaningful.

Indeed! But hopefully people aren’t waiting for Lent to go to Confession!

Yes. 👍 I should have qualified this with far more frequent visitations to Confession, at least weekly.

Rosary/novena every single day, or complete silence (absolutely no music or talk radio) while driving.

And though this may be difficult for the OP, maybe try going through the entirety of Lent without being sarcastic. 😉

Sometimes I add something instead of giving something up, such such as stations and attending daily mass.

During Lent,I make sacrifices,I pray more ,If I could give up more I would, for I seek the Kingdom of Heaven, and to give my life up if I had too for the Love of God son Jesus I read now" Mercy in my pocket" it is dedicated to Pope Francis, by the Franciscan Friars

There’s no way I could do that. 😊
Right??

I’m planning to try a modified version. But notice I said “try” because although I am going into it with the best intentions and lots of planning, I have doubts about my own abilities. 😦

It sounds like one would need a lot of alone time. I got to work at the parish at 815 this morning. I got hone around 945-1000. There’s no way I could fit in exercise. Heck, I can’t even get away from the phones and the spreadsheets and lesson plans for that 20 mins to go to the chapel. I’ll have to really really really really really modify.

I’ve always liked the saying “Don’t just give up – give more” in relation to Lent.

Yes, my children (all young) wouldn’t be too fond of several aspects of this plan in its original form. I can just imagine the baby’s response to me checking out for private prayer more than I already do. 😛

I like this aspect. It always burns my toast when someone asks, “What are you doing for Lent?” In a general sense why would someone need to know? Of course there are some that really need some ideas or direction as to what Lent is or the value of Lent, but that is different. I guess I am just becoming intolerant:eek: of what is often personal questions or one- up-man-ship. Peace.

I think I have seen faithful Catholics before say they have given up or are giving up CAF or part of it at least.

I’m planning on trying a modified version as well.

If I read it correctly you are required to go to the chapel for the 20 minutes.
