Curious if there are any sites giving a history of the practice of plaster devotional statuary/makers etc. I enjoy collecting the more intricate figures that I find in secondhand stores etc. Recently I was at a moving sale and I found a large, ornate Sacred Heart statue that I immediately fell in love with. I had limited cash and other things and I was afraid to ask the price. The older lady running the sale threw Him in for free. So that he didn’t bounce around in the car I had Him belted in the passenger seat (For around an hour I could literally say “God is my co-pilot”). In the case of “Big Jesus” (He stands around 22" tall) I am interested to find out roughly how old he is and maybe His origin. He has no maker mark that I can find. I assume He is blessed but I am going to have Him blessed anyway. Somebody clearly loved Him to have such a large statue. I can imagine He would have cost a pretty penny for His original owner.
