Okay, seriously? Have a gander at this:

It’s Paula White (pre-divorce, I’m guessing, about five years ago) and an auditorium filled to the brim with people digging their way to salvation. I almost had to laugh, and then my heart sunk with sadness for how these people have been pulled in by the Doctrine of the Plastic Shovel.

And I’m asking seriously: how can a person of reasonable logic fall for this?

I think I must have seen a different video - the one I saw seemed very Catholic, in a lot of ways, to me.

Sure, the plastic shovel is just a symbol (think “sacramental object”) but I thought her message was very Catholic in its content - that we must work in the same direction that we believe - that believing in God means nothing if we’re not working for His kingdom, by following His commandments, in our day to day reality.

Oh, all I saw was mass hysteria and blind acceptance. 🤷 I guess it’s all the histrionics of a display like this that get to me. . . going totally by what one feels in the moment, and that mere “digging it” can save your soul. And that one needs a gimmick like a teensy plastic shovel to drive the point home.

It was definitely gimmicky, and very emotional, but I think it drove home the point she was trying to make. She also seems to instinctively understand that people need movement and symbolism in their religious experience.

Personally, I think she’d make a great Catholic. 😃

You think so? Wow, I never thought of it that way. . . :o

See, that’s why I love the insight these forums provide. 😉

Now that’s just brillant 😃

Dig Dig Dig Dig Dig 😃 😃 😃

Barely an accurate word of scripture in there. 😃

I love the way Jesus has an aweful lot to say to people like Paula and all the other prosperity preachers.

God forgive them for the way they mislead millions and millions of people.

I would not like that type of service. Maybe I am interested in the Catholic faith because they dont hold services like that. At least, I dont think so. I remember going to a Mass years ago, and it was a normal enviornment to me.

I guess I don’t dig that kind of worship.

They seem to like it and if it helps them I suppose its good for them:shrug:

I think its what can be labeled as BK Theology…as in Burger King, and have it your own way. Entitlement theology is like that. I call it religious “hucksterism”…

Here’s another one to gander at…its interesting as well…pay close attention: youtube.com/watch?v=xfoGpHrAt2k&feature=related

This one is interesting as wellllllllll…

You can even buy her exercise tape…

Can you say: Send me your dollars… I need a new helicopter, and my Bentley is getting dirty!

Its not religion…its feel good marketing directed at gullible people who have lost sight of reality.

Is she shoveling the B.S. that is her beliefs?

Or is she symbolically burying the Truth?

Kinda hard for me to get into. I have a hard time following someone hollaring at me and talking funny like that. I guess it sounded like a good motivational speech to me. Not my idea of worship, though.

They were worshipping? Coulda fooled me…
So are you saying at concerts those people are worshipping the bands? (That’s what this resembles)

I do see a lot of reverence here, but it is misguided…sorry.
Charismatics has its place, I just do not think it should RE-place true worship, especially not at the expense of veering also from The Truth…

I know my comment might sound condescending to some and if it really does I want someone to tell me. I do not want this to sound like a snide remark.

I’ve seen this kind of preaching before and the content seems meaningless. There’s a lot of emotionalism and a religious spirit that is not of God. When a person has to appeal to this kind of method to get a point across, the message is often lost because people are focused on their emotions instead of their minds.

The Scriptures say that we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds. King David prayed that God would create in him a pure heart. So, a renewed mind and a clean heart bring one closer to God and release His blessings.

I’ve seen other “prosperity gospel” preachers not go this far and it works. But, for me, this was unbearable. God gave us humans a mind that is unsurpassed in the universe. We should use it more often.

Peace…

That’s funny. You and Baptists have a lot more in common than you think 🙂

No, definitely not worship. More like a Life in the Spirit group, or a rally, or something. I didn’t have a problem with the message, as far as I understood it - I thought she was just telling them to bury their sins in the past behind them, and take on a new day with Jesus in their hearts. As far as I could tell, the only thing missing was the crowd of priests in the back, waiting to hear Confessions - other than that, it could have been a Catholic Life in the Spirit or LifeTeen rally. 🤷

My only interest is in having something in common with St. Paul. If a Christian finds himself in disagreement with the Bible, that means it’s time for his opinion to change.
