Ah right, so unless i am acting it on stage etc it is a sin?Unless you are doing so as an actor, or for theater, to educate students or teach or something obvious to the public, the canonical infraction for:
The Western Code is:
Can. 1378 §1. A priest who acts against the prescript of can. 977 incurs a latae sententiae excommunication reserved to the Apostolic See.
§2. The following incur a latae sententiae penalty of interdict or, if a cleric, a latae sententiae penalty of suspension:
1/ a person who attempts the liturgical action of the Eucharistic sacrifice though not promoted to the sacerdotal order;
2/ apart from the case mentioned in §1, a person who, though unable to give sacramental absolution validly, attempts to impart it or who hears sacramental confession.
§3. In the cases mentioned in §2, other penalties, not excluding excommunication, can be added according to the gravity of the delict.
Can. 1379 In addition to the cases mentioned in can. 1378, a person who simulates the administration of a sacrament is to be punished with a just penalty.
For the Eastern Code:
Canon 1443 - Whoever has simulated the celebration of the Divine Liturgy or other sacraments, is to be punished with an appropriate penalty, not excluding a major excommunication
Well if you do not use real wine and et real ritual it is just an explanation I would say.Gosh, I hope not. As a former catechist, I used my little Lego priest set to help the kids learn about the mass. Additionally, I would on occasion play the part of the “priest” while training altar servers.
It all goes back to intent.
Peace,
B
Amen, i have not done it since i was a kid.As an adult?
Um, if nothing else, it’s weird…![]()
Please give us a more clear definition of what you mean by “play mass”.Is it a sin to play mass as an adult?

I am doing doing anything at this moment, i was just wondering if it was a sin to do the same thing i used to do as a young boy:Please give us a more clear definition of what you mean by “play mass”.
Outline for us exactly what you’re doing, and what intention you have while doing so.
Until we have this information, no one can reliably give you an accurate judgement on the morality of it.
But for normal lay people its wrong to do I assume?Seminarians do it in order to practice prior to being ordained to the Priesthood. It would be bad form to look lost during one’s first Mass after all![]()
Yes, but they do it after receiving a dispensation from the bishop to permit them. That makes it quite a different situation.Seminarians do it in order to practice prior to being ordained to the Priesthood. It would be bad form to look lost during one’s first Mass after all![]()
Hmm. This doesn’t really seem appropriate. I’m not a theologian, so I don’t find it easy to define for you exactly what’s wrong with this, but it does seem that this rather disrespectful to the prayer that is the Mass.Namely saying the same prayers as during an actual mass, using home made robes, candy paper has hosts, and grape juice as wine.![]()
Thanks a lot, I came to the same conclusion so a little conformation helps.Hmm. This doesn’t really seem appropriate. I’m not a theologian, so I don’t find it easy to define for you exactly what’s wrong with this, but it does seem that this rather disrespectful to the prayer that is the Mass.
As a child, I can see this being permitted to an extent. But you’re no longer a child, and so you “put away the things of a child”. Playing a “game” where you fantasize about saying Mass trivializes just how serious the real thing is.
Just go to Mass every day and be happy. If you want to do it yourself, go to the seminary.![]()
Don’t doubt that it is possible! God has done more difficult things in the past, and we could recite a litany of saints who struggled greatly with their academic ability, but yet, still went on to become priests. And I wish I could go to the seminary but I do not have the right education for it due to my autism and my inability to pass certain criteria, such as math, grammar, and other things, so it is another dead dream I guess.![]()

Well that voice in my mind says the same thing, so I guess that’s true.Don’t doubt that it is possible! God has done more difficult things in the past, and we could recite a litany of saints who struggled greatly with their academic ability, but yet, still went on to become priests.
Remember: it’s not you who has to do it. God will do it for you, if you trust him.
I advise you find a spiritual counselor who can help you along to 1) discern if you are indeed called to the priesthood and 2) make it happen if that is, indeed, the case.
Why would you do this as an adult?I am doing doing anything at this moment, i was just wondering if it was a sin to do the same thing i used to do as a young boy:

Well i was just wondering, iam not really going to do it.Why would you do this as an adult?
There is a Missa Sicca.
The Missa Sicca (Latin for “dry Mass”) was a devotion in the Middle Ages used when a priest did not have access to bread and wine. It contained many of the elements of the Mass, except those parts relevant to the consecration of the Eucharist. A form of the Missa Sicca is still prayed today by Carthusian monks, but for the most part, this devotion fell into disuse after the Middle Ages. The offertory (not the antiphon),prayers of consecration and consecration, prayers before Communion, and the post communion prayer would have been omitted since there is no Consecration.
ChurchMilitant (i have no idea on whether I can post this link or not since Voris doesn’t seem to fit well on here from what I have seen in past threads. Please don’t crucify me) had an article on the Missa Sicca churchmilitant.com/news/article/missa-sicca
Now playing Mass with actually bread and wine is weird and could get you excommunicated.

Cool, a fact of history i did not know yet!ChurchMilitant (i have no idea on whether I can post this link or not since Voris doesn’t seem to fit well on here from what I have seen in past threads. Please don’t crucify me) had an article on the Missa Sicca churchmilitant.com/news/article/missa-sicca
I was thinking that to, but as a kid you can sorta get away with it.Now playing Mass with actually bread and wine is weird and could get you excommunicated.
