Playing music in public

Here in the USA, there are laws saying you need a certain license to play music in public. Well obviously, I don’t to sin by breaking the law. But I’m confused at what “public” means. I think it pertains to businesses, but id like more information. If I play a song in public just for a group of friends, am I breaking the law? What about just a small amount of people I know but wouldn’t consider ‘friends’

Im pretty sure they are talking about being in a public venue, up on stage in a public park or somthing. If you want to sit by the fountain and play koombyah with your friends, by all means. as long as your not causing a riot, you should be ok. Just talk with your local police. Im sure they will be happy to advise you. They really are nice folk…I admit, the last sentence was a little self serving. Enjoy yourself. I wont ticket ya. I may even join in.

it depends on local law in your area. that law usually refers to public spaces like parks, transit stations, city streets and so forth and has more to do with obstructing the areas, safety, interfering with people’s use of the space. There are often further laws about doing this while trying to collect money from bystanders. Ask at your local authority.

Just play,but make sure its good, i`m not american but have lived there for a while.

you`ll just get a warning or told to move on,be pragmatic about the situation,you would be eschew from the law!! surly…
