If you were in a passion play or movie and played the part of peter where he denies Jesus and you read the script and did your part would that be the same as denying Jesus? would that be a sin?

Every year some person must read the part of Peter during mass as that gospel is read. That is not the same as saying those words as your own. It is not the same as claiming to another that you do not know or follow Christ.

No, it’s not a sin to playact the role of someone sinning, particularly if the play is intended to encourage people not to sin. If it were a sin just to say out loud the words that Peter said, the priest would sin by reading the Gospels out loud at church! Heck, the Evangelists would have sinned by repeating the story while writing the Gospels!

I had to play Judas and apart of the crowd yelling “crucify” … I felt strange doing it but I knew a message was being sent to the audience…If you were in a passion play or movie and played the part of peter where he denies Jesus and you read the script and did your part would that be the same as denying Jesus? would that be a sin?

I know, I can’t stand the part before easter when we do the reenactment… yelling to crucify Him is just so awful. But you’re right, not only is the audience moved but so are we.

I kinow what you mean, ljubim, but I also find it a reminder of how easily we can get caught up in the crowd-hysteria syndrome. I find myself praying that I’ll always be able to see what is true and right, even when the crowd around me is in favour of something else.I know, I can’t stand the part before easter when we do the reenactment… yelling to crucify Him is just so awful. To sin, we must knowingly and willingly consent to something which we believe and know to be a sin.
You’re not consenting or to it, in fact your intention is clearly contrary to Peter’s betrayal. You are merely portraying it, for the purpose of revealing the gospel, as everyone realises. In earlier times, when few people could read, this was a popular mean of teachinging scripture, morality plays etc
If it was a sin, any time the priest read the gospel containing Peter’s betrayal,
he’d be sinning…but he isn’t.
Even so, I’d probably feel reluctant also…when the croud is supposed to call out ‘crucify Him’, I can’t ever do that either! It isn’t a sin, there is just a strong distaste for doing so when it’s so far from our wish or intention.
