I’m really confused on how to answer this. There are people who say that Pokemon promotes animal violence, and that Avatar the Last Airbender promotes magic and chi, or what not, but they also promote a lot of good things as well. I love God, and I try to love Him with all my heart at all times, but I also love to play Pokemon & watch Avatar, and I wish that I can do those things again without the feeling that they might offend our Lord. I don’t know, maybe I’m just being too scrupulous and all, but I love our God, and I’m willing to do anything for Him. I would really appreciate your answers and information to back those answers up.

~ Thanks in Advance,

If God watched 6 million Jews get exterminated, do you really think he cares if you play Pokémon?

Are playing Pokemon and watching Avatar intrinsically sinful? No.
Can you have sinful reasons for wanting to do either? Yes.

But it sounds to me like you’re worrying over nothing.

Well, to be technical here, Pokemon aren’t animals, they’re pocket monsters! XD
And while these “monsters” do fight one another, it’s hardly graphic/bloody (at least the games that I’ve seen or played), and animal violence isn’t the message that the game is trying to send. The games, to me, are just mindless fun in trying to catch 'em all and become the strongest trainer ~ these 2 things appear to be the objectives from the games that I’ve seen.

I know there are other Pokemon games out there, though, that may have different/additional themes such as friendship (like how it is in the anime).

I’ve watched them both. I don’t think they are sinful. As long as you don’t adopt the wrong/heretical ideas that they might contain, I don’t think there’s going to be a problem.

But if you want to skip them as a form of sacrifice, that’s very good. It’s not automatically sinful to watch them, but skipping them for more productive things can be meritorious. 😃

I can understand your cynicism in considering the silence of God. However this poster is obviously looking at all aspects of their life in their attempt to please God.
I, for one, admire their simple reassessment to align their living to be more in keeping with the will of Our Lord. I see no sin in playing these simple games and realise its importance in the scheme of things.
However, if we all realigned our lives constantly to be in line with our conscience in the simple things, like the Blessed Saint of the Little Way, we may by habit, find the harder things that much easier.
The question of the silence of a good God in the face of so much evil, even against His chosen people, is a problem of Faith for all Christians. Answers to this question have been the subject of other threads, but I will pray that God answers your quite justifiable anger.
God Bless you and our original poster. We should all try to have the simplicity of children in coming before our Lord.
