Hi, everyone!

This may be a very stupid question, but it has been bugging me. I am trying to rid myself of any sin, past or present. As a teen I played the sims often and for those of you who do not know, it is pretty much a simulation for life where you create people and play out their lives.

My question is, is it a sin if you “Woohooed” in the game? Most of the time, I only did this to consummate the marriage of my sims and if I wanted to my sims to conceive a child. But, there were times when I wanted my sim to have an interesting conversation story, and so on.

I think it’s a pretty interesting thing we are dealing with in today’s world, because you can do so many things virtually that you would never do in real life. In reality, nothing happened but I was just wondering if it would be concidered sin because I willfully chose for the action to happen? And if so, is it a mortal sin?

Again, it might be a stupid question, but I hope y’all can help me out on this one.

Thanks and God bless you!!!

I love the Sims, and I don’t think doing anything immoral in the game is a sin. At the same time, is it the wisest thing to do? I’d imagine it’s not the most morally upright thing.

Yeah the old fantasies that never is allowed to be lived out. I do this all the time in my inner world, ie fantasies about what I’d like to do byt can’t (even if it is a good thing like living a saintly life).

Not unless there is something in a game that you fully want to do in real life that would be a sin in real life. Sins of thought are actually sins of the will (like all sins) and if it’s not about wanting something in reality then it’s not really a sin. That said, I think there are some video games that are just negative influences on our soul (Grand Theft Auto comes to mind) but of course that also goes for movies, books, music; any entertainment that desensitizes us to sin.

It’s impossible to sin in a video game. Sin takes place in the real world. You could have your Sim burn down a church while shouting “Hail Satan!” if that were an option. Not a sin. If you’re having trouble differentiating between video games and reality, it’s a sign that you need to ease up on the video games.

Also, you can just say sex. You don’t need to say “woohoo.” We can handle the word “sex”, it’s okay.

There are 3 things to consider when considering the morality in every action: (all 3 must be good for the act to be a good act)

1)intention - your intention was to have an interesting story, and see what happened in the game, therefore it seems your intention was good.

2)moral object - the object of this act is playing a game which is not intrinsically evil so it will depend on intention and circumstance.

3)Circumstance - what was the circumstance when you were playing the game. Could others see you were fornicating with your character? Did this happen many many times. An overall question of is this game bringing you joy?

Yeah, sorry, but I’m going to have to disagree here.

What you do in the video isn’t a sin, but actually doing it in the game can be. Woohooing in the sims isn’t that big a deal, but there are other game, like the Witcher series, or other more degenerate games, where “woohooing” in those game would definitely be a sin for you in real life due to the graphic nature of the game’s depiction. There are also countless games where that woohooing is the entire point, and which are explicitly pornographic, so doing something in those games would be a sin in real life.

OP, I wouldn’t worry about it. The sims is fairly tame. Nothing graphic is shown and, so long as you aren’t using it as an outlet to indulge in inappropriate fantasies then you’re probably alright.

Personally, I only have my married sims woohoo.

You’re not actually disagreeing with me. In that instance, the sin is happening in the real world: you’re really viewing pornography. But you wouldn’t be guilty of the “sin” the character committed, because it’s impossible to sin in a simulated fake universe.

But you sitting there on your computer watching graphic depictions of sex (in the case of x-rated games) is taking place in the real world.

Basically what I’m saying is your video game character is not an extension of you with the responsibility to make moral choices. It actually weirds me out when people don’t intuitively grasp this because it suggests they’re taking the video game world waaayyyy too seriously.

As an analogy, imagine I were a novelist, and I wrote a story from the point of view of a character in which they did something very sinful. I as the author have not sinned, because the actual sinful event didn’t take place. Nothing actually happened.

This makes sense. Sorry for the confusion.
