Playstation 3 vs XBox 360

I own both a 360 and a PS3. I own 26 games for the Xbox 360 and 5 for the PS3. Hope that info helps

It is quite the indicator, isn’t it? When I bought my 360 a couple weeks ago, the fellow I purchased it from threw in six games (two of which came with the new console…Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2: Motorsport.) They were Halo 3 (Legendary Edition), Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Collector’s Edition), Enchanted Arms and Phantasy Star Universe. So basically a very nice collection in its own right.

Then I did some hunting on ebay and scored another seven games…many of them “OBox” titles, but ones that I had either never played before or played and enjoyed years ago when I had my original XBox. These included both the original Halo and Halo 2, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fable, two Prince of Persia titles (one of which hasn’t been “fixed” to work on the 360 yet), and the 360 title Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II. The beauty of all these games is that I spent less on them collectively than it would have cost for one brand new title (I spent under $60 for all seven!)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I recently heard the PS3 isn’t fully backward compatible? Is this just with regard to original PS titles, PS2 titles, or both? That could have some impact on my decision, as I still have some older games I enjoy. And my old venerable PS2 (one of the originals…not the slimline) is literally being held together by a bungi cord right now. I suspect it’s not long for this world, especially after I played Final Fantasy XII for over 220 hours on it over a year ago.

There are some good titles in the queue for the PS3, so it should be more attractive to a wider audience this year.

My 360 just got the infamous “red rings of death” two days ago.

I turned it on again afterward and it still worked, but I have a feeling its just a matter of time before I have to send it off to Microsoft to be repaired.

If and when that happens, I’ll gladly try to meet up on Live with you guys

Until then…quick question

How many of you would be interested in writing Catholic video game reviews? I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago, and I did get some responses, but not really quite enough to really get anything going. Would anyone else be interested (and yes, any and all console owners can apply )

Let me know when you’re back up and running, Andy. We’ll have to form up a posse and show the heathen how Catholics lay the holy smack-down in Halo!

With regard to the writing, I’m not sure I’m your man…on account o’ cuz I’m a cheap-skate and wait for the games to come down to around $20 before I buy them. By then, most of the juice has been squeezed out of them by the rank-and-file gaming community, and I’m not sure reviews 6-12 months after release serves anyone’s purpose.

Lately, I’ve been in the market for a new DVD player, not a game console, and all of the reviews I’ve read state that the PS3, surprisingly, is not only the least expensive Blu-Ray player on the market, but the one with the highest ratings. In my mind, I’d buy it for the Blu-Ray player, and I get a gaming system as a bonus.

HD-DVD’s are already useless…no need to wait. Toshiba just announced this past week that they were stopping all production of their HD-DVD line. This follows close on the heels of a number of major studios and wholesale outlets throwing their considerable marketing weight behind Blu-Ray.

That being said, you won’t find me bad-mouthing one platform over another. Both have great exclusive titles that I enjoy. I’ve had a Sony platform in the house since the original Playstation (before it was designated as “PS1.”) I still have that PS, plus my launch PS2, and will likely pick up a PS3 before the end of this year.

At the same time (all’s fair in love, war and corporate silliness), there’s plenty of flubs on behalf of both Microsoft and Sony as pertains to their respective systems, so I’m no “fanboi” either.
