Jesus, King of Mercy, have mercy on all those who have died as the result of a police action, and on all law enforcement officers who take someone’s life in the performance of their duties, regardless of whether such action was necessary and justified, or unnecessary or unjustified, or even malicious. Jesus, only You know with certainty what caused such situations and what feelings were in the heart of each person involved. Please give police officers the wisdom and judgment to avoid killing another wherever possible, and also give those who lead and train officers the wisdom and judgment to train in the right way to provide good protection to the community while minimizing the threat and occurrence of violence. Also please guide all who participate in investigating police killings so that all the facts are gathered and the investigators and if necessary the courts reach a fair and just outcome, considering all the circumstances. Please especially help the specific facts of each instance to be considered so that people do not make snap judgments or generalizations based on race, nationality, or any other stereotype. Please send Your Holy Spirit to bring peace and encourage the members of the community to support and work with honest, well-meaning law enforcement officers and have confidence in them, and prevent any unrest or violence by officers, suspects, witnesses and members of the community, for all such incidents. In Jesus’ Name I humbly pray. Amen.
Police Officers’ Prayer for Wisdom
adapted from
patheos.com/ blogs/ christiancrier
Sometimes, Righteous Father, police officers have to make life and death decisions in a split second and they cannot always stop to think about it since there may not be time. And so I ask You, Father, to help them make wise decisions while carrying out the performance of my duties. When officers are in situations where they don’t have much time to decide what to do, I ask for Your great wisdom to guide them to do what is best for everyone while also protecting their own lives and those of the local citizens. They need Your wisdom from above, as Your wisdom is superior to that of man. I put my trust in You and ask for You to make it clear what they should do in difficult decisions when they might not have time to wait and think about it. I ask this in the name of and for the glory of the coming King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. Amen.
