Please boycott all things sold by Microsoft, including Windows. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donates to Planned Parenthood. (Bill Gates is the head honcho of Microsoft)

Please boycott the bands on this webpage: rockforlife.org/html/music_proabortionbands.html

Also, please pray for all Microsoft employees and all the members of the bands on that webpage. God bless you!

I have been thinking about using Linux for some time now. I think we need some sort of thread on this site where people who have linux can point others in the right direction as to how to go about finding/installing it.

I can understand that you want to boycott Microsoft and it’s products, however Microsoft has branched out and bought alot of other companies, don’t forget the Xbox too, they also bought some videogame companies…gosh is there a list of all the companies Microsoft has it’s hands in?

I agree that we need a thread to help people use Linux. DH and I use Gentoo and DH is developing Utopios. utopios.org PM me and I’ll give you his email address so we can figure something out to help people.

I don’t know of a list of Microsoft-owned companies. Hopefully somebody else can find one, or I’ll search for one online when DH and I get home from church and a friend’s house in a few hours. God bless you!

Hi, I understand your good intentions, but Microsoft is a very large company with many employees (including my husband) who do not support Planned Parenthood, in fact, we support pro-life causes with our own money. Bill & Melinda Gates do unfortunately support PP and other programs promoting contraception/abortion but they do also support many good programs in our state like underfunded elementary schools, and money for smaller high schools, technology grants, etc. I can’t see boycotting the entire company and its products because of what Gates does with his personal money.

Sorry, I use Windows and don’t plan on switching any time now.

There’s a lot of my favorite bands on that list…😦
Me, too. Here are some great Christian bands:
dashjr.is-a-geek.org/~cora-jr/favs/chrmusic.html
and some good secular music:
dashjr.is-a-geek.org/~cora-jr/favs/secmusic.html

For those who won’t give up Windows:
This could be such a great statement from the Christian/prolife community if a software giant like Micro$oft started losing money! To the woman whose husband is a MS employee: There are other computer jobs out there. The preborn babies are worth it! There are other charities that are (or could be) helping people. Please remember that we’re fighting for life. God bless you!

Hey guys, pay attention to this lady. There is more to Microsoft than Bill Gates. We do have to consider employees who do good things with their money as well.
On a different note, however, I hesitantly recall Pope Benedicts words to Spain: “Be prepared to lose your jobs.”
If it comes down to it, sometimes it takes losing our income to protest support for immoral things. I hope and pray that it doesn’t come to that with faithful Catholics, but unfortunately, I think it is going to.
Keep doing good things with your money!
God Bless,

Jusitn

Even if there is more to M$ than Gates, the majority of M$ software is itself distributed under immoral licenses.

John Higgins:
Huh?

John
Moral software does not restrict our rights to read, share, and modify code. For example, if I had a book that I wanted to lend you and I was in fear of punishment by law because I couldn’t share books, we’d be living in a nightmare. The book signifies software. Microsoft is the most famous example of a monopoly which won’t let people modify its code and which makes people buy its software with wacky restrictions on the number of copies and the number of computers software can be installed on. Moral software’s code is made available to other people outside of the companies who sell the software.
Moral software is also secure. Security usually increases with morality. Windows, one of the worst operating systems, is also really bad in terms of security. Some very intelligent programmers have fun while figuring out how to get through Windows’ many security holes. This is why there are so many anti-virus programs for Windows and relatively few for Mac and none for Linux-based operating sytems.

Also, without Windows…there would be no viruses! No blue screens of death! How can you say that isn’t attractive? God bless you.

Exactly! Haven’t some pharmacists already lost their jobs because they refuse to give out birth control?

This is a bit difficult for those who are issued company owned computers using this software. Many do not have a choice in these decisions. Perhaps for home computers, yes.

I agree that that’s difficult. Do you or your spouse work for Microsoft or does your employer use Windows? Hopefully when DH wakes up he will help people find a user-friendly OS to switch to that’s inexpensive and easy to configure.

Neither one of us work for microsoft. But my DH works extensively on computers at work and has no choice about what software they use. I work out of my house, but again, I have to use software compatible with the main office.

Do you have to use Microsoft Word? There are open source programs out there. Hopefully Luke will wake up soon and help me out here; he knows a lot more about this than I do. There’s at leats one program out there that you can download (I think it’s free) and you can save things as .doc so it’ll be compatible with MS Word.

Here’s a benefit to using Mozilla Firefox or Konqueror instead of Internet Explorer: you can have tabbed browsing instead of having many windows! I have one browser window open now with 9 tabs. With IE, I would have to have 9 separate browser windows. Thank God for good browsers! Also, other browsers usually stay up-to-date with standards. IE isn’t up-to-date with CSS and other stuff.

I don’t use word, I do use firefox, but the computer does have windows, I can’t change that.

Please visit ProLifePC.com - This website talks about boycotting Microsoft Products because of Microsoft’s and the Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation support of Planned Parenthood. It also mentions an article where Bill Gates officially states that his father was once head of Planned Parenthood.

Well I for one am not joining in all these boycotts. I’ll use Microsoft products, buy Starbucks coffee, shop at Target, buy a Ford…

This is silly. There are many philanthropic organizations that give to thousands of recipients, probably including PP. I think MS does a heck of lot more good than bad. And to be realistic, boycotts rarely work…Roanoker
