and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,

Empty is good–Jesus emptied Himself (the Kenosis) of all that was unnecessary in His life so He could expend His powers on what matters. Of course He did so as an example to us, since in reality He had accumulated nothing negative in all His life. None of the heavy load we pick up day by day as we worry about things we shouldn’t, get mixed up in things we shouldn’t, do things we shouldn’t. It’s like we’re picking up pebbles as we go down the road–but pretty soon we’ve got a giant sack full of rocks that are weighing us down. Don’t start throwing them away one at a time, just drop the sack. “I’ll cast my burden at His feet and bear a song away.” That’s a song I heard somewhere, maybe a hymn, and I think I got the words right.
Exinanition. The emptying out so we can start over in a few minutes, change the course of our life in the next few minutes, by just trusting the Lord and wanting to fill the emptiness we’ve created in our heart by getting rid of the negative, with the positive. How can you reach out and grab the positive and start filling your heart with it? Think of the Saints. Think of holy people who aren’t Saints yet, and may never be, but go around doing good without thought of recompense. Think of our Father. But most of all, back to the Bible, replay the scenes from the life of the greatest Positive in all and through all, our Lord Jesus Christ. What did He do? What did He say? How did He treat others? He is our great Example.
He loves us. Love Him. And if you love Him (because you get to know Him), you will love others. You will love whom He loves. And when you love them, they will begin to love you. This is the Caritas Dei of the Holy Father’s teaching a few years ago.

Jesus, Help Me

In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust, saying,
Jesus, help me!

In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations,
Jesus, help me!

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials,
Jesus, help me!

In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles and sorrows,
Jesus, help me!

When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts,
Jesus, help me!

When others fail me, and Thy grace alone can assist me,
Jesus, help me!

When I throw myself on Thy tender love as Father and Savior,
Jesus, help me!

When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me,
Jesus, help me!

When sickness and loneliness overcome me,
Jesus, help me!

Always, in weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind,
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen
