I quickly turned the magazine around so you could not see the front.
I did this recently with a similar magazine cover (different mag though)–and the ad on the back was just as bad!

The grocery stores in my town all have a “no mags, no candy” aisle for folks who don’t want to deal with either soft porn or kids crying for candy. Of course, the romance/thriller novels that they stock there instead don’t always have covers that are much better!

Putting blinders on my children is not the answer. Dealing with the exposure, and giving honest & truthful answers as to why these things are wrong is the answer.
It is not blinders people are asking for but respect. You may call the display of indecent material Freedom of Speech, but it is because of the blatant Abuses of such freedom, in order to shock and offend to make a buck, will bring all freedoms to an end.

Freedom without self-restraint is just another form of tyrany.

Matt 13:37-38 Who made answer and said to them: He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man. And the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle (weeds) are the children of the wicked one.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the gate and knock. If any man shall hear my voice and open to me the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him: and he with me.

My apologies for the tone & anger of my previous reply.

I just get my knickers in a twist when our blood defended rights as American (or other Nation’s) Citizens are misused, or are twisted into gain, then the perps run and hide behind them because they have pushed the definition to it’s extreme… all the way to the bank…
An example is the link you posted… the woman in the photo is not showing any body part that falls under the “definition” of pornography. Her nipples or genitalia are not visible… so does this make display of this photo in a public place right? To us and other like-minded people…No… but it is completely within the limits of the law… just barely.

Exercise a few of your rights - boycotting & petition come to mind. Target “Target” and bombard them with valid petitions and threat of boycott by a group of people. Make them change their marketing strategy. As stated there are other retailers out there that have made “kid-friendly” checkout lanes.

Oh, BTW… buy a “Poppy” on Memorial Day

The Target Managers are not the ones to scold if you have a problem with the material on the shelves. It is going to take alot of phone calls to the Corporation. I’m sure Target isnt the only store that sells that magazine either. On a national level that is what sells unfortunately. For us to think that will change overnight would really be foolish. As the OP said we need to educate our children on what is right and wrong, they will come accross alot worse than this magazine cover as they mature. I dont personally agree with the content but it is within the legal rights of Target and the other stores to market their products to get the best sales results possible, that is why they are in business. Again, phone calls, emails, petitions, and many prayers is what needs to be done in order to hopefully one day enjoy the kind of world we all want for our youth.

I did complain via internet, and got this reply (emphasis mine):

I think our complaints must be working because I couldn’t find it at the checkout at my local Target this weekend! Yeah!
