Non-Catholic Christians who believe in this doctrine, please define it. I have already heard so many variants of this.

What is the definition of sola scriptura?

I don’t have any intention of starting a debate here, but just want to know how people actually define this doctrine. I’m sure you’ll come up with some definitions for me. And make sure you agree among yourselves, i.e. if someone posts an incomplete or wrong definition, please correct the person.

My fellow Catholics, please don’t interfere, let them define it and then we will see which definition describes it the best.

Please consider some of the historical Protestant Confessions for the answer to your question. You see, Protestants can have creeds and confessions too. Please click on the topic “Holy Scriptures” in the index to the confession.

There’s too much (even redundant) info on those sites. Please be more specific. Why don’t you read it yourself and post a precise definition here instead of asking me to refer to those links?

The topic on “Holy Scriptures” is not that long. We historic Bible Christians can be confessional too. We actually share some of the same historic creeds too.

Scripture is the only infallible, God-breathed revelation in possession of the Church in the post-apostolic period. As such, it is our only infallible authority and the rule of faith for the life of the Church. Other authorities exist, but as they are not God-breathed revelation they function secondarily to and are derivative of, Scripture.

And this does not preclude the use of other authorities, creeds, confessions, and the like, as solo scripturists claim.

If you read the two historic Protestant Confessions, it will give you the view of creeds and confessions as a historical biblical Christian. Creeds and confessions have their place for the biblical Christian. There is nothing wrong with traditon or even with Sacred Tradition when it agrees with the Scriptures. 🙂
