Is your husband-to-be Catholic? Did you get confirmed? Are you planning on getting married in the Catholic Church?

Lol, sorry for any confusion. I’m a man that’s been married since 2014 to a woman. We are both confirmed.

The Baptist Church with the dispensation from the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese.

So, my understanding is you are both Catholic but got married in the Baptist church. I’ve never heard of this situation, but I think I would go about seeing if you can get a blessing in the Catholic Church. Maybe I shouldn’t have responded, but I’m just trying to get clarity.

SSPV are basically a splinter group of traditional Catholics that aren’t in communion with Rome. However, at times they raise reasonable points.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. Pretty well everyone I’ve spoken to – priests included – have told me that the marriage is valid an in good standing with the Church. So I’ll just go with that.

Yes, definitely go with that. Be at peace!

I don’t believe this is necessary though if it’s already recognized in the Church.

I don’t know why I started this thread I’m essentially just answering my own questions haha.

You mean SPPX. Yeah, stay away from them. They are a schismatic group.

I’m sure what the Bishop told you is correct. However, for your peace in mind and to help others who will read this in the future, I have a few questions you need to clear up first.
  1. You completed the paperwork with the priest before you were married, correct?
  2. Was your wife Confirmed in the Catholic Church before or after your wedding day?
  3. Was your wife still a baptist on your wedding day?
NOTE: the SSPV is a very extreme sect, they are too far sedevacantist for even the SSPX

  1. Yes paperwork was completed before the wedding.
  2. Wife was confirmed before the wedding.
  3. Wife was never a Baptist – it was only myself that strayed away for a time into that Baptist stuff.
All of this was disclosed to the priest who forwarded it to the diocese/Vicar.

And yes, I’m aware that the SSPV are pretty seriously sedevacantist. It’s hard to know what they consider valid.

Just to clarify, the wife never followed me into the Baptist thing at all, really, with the exception of maybe hearing some of my Calvinist arguments while I was still a Baptist.
She’s always just been Catholic.
It was only me that started attending a Baptist Church off and on and was publicly “re-baptized” in a Baptist ceremony.
