For example when Jesus said suffer the children to come unto me (Matthew 10:14). We all know one reason that children are delightful is because they do silly things that make adults laugh. In fact, God made them that way so that they could give us joy and their antics would make us love them more and take care of them.
.
I just want to piggy-back on this. Remember how this story unfolded. Jesus was tired. The kids run up to him and the disciples want to send them away.
Many of use, when we’re tired, are not the most friendly people. This begs the question, why would the children run to Jesus?
The obvious answer, he was a non-threatening person, even when he was tired.
Next question – do children like sour pusses?
HECK NO!
Conclusion, the kids liked Jesus, he probably did not teach them Aquinas all the time.
Heck, even Aquinas liked kids and did not talk to them about his writings.
I imagine Jesus being like John Bosco. Bosco taught the kids catechism while he played soccer with them. Then there was John Paul II. John Paul had a very extensive youth ministry. He taught kids the Gospel while they hiked and went camping.
I can imagine Jesus doing fun things with these kids and that’s why they came to him so readily. Also, remember the time that he’s talking to the Apostles and he calls the child to stand in their center. Where did this kid come from? Would Jesus have called this kid into the center knowing that the kid would feel intimidated? I doubt it.
There was a comfort level between him and children.
Finally, let us not forget that Jesus was a normal kid. Don’t kids laugh?
