Please don't think a frivolous question

You know, when I meditate on the wedding feast of Cana, I can’t picture Jesus sitting there like a sourpuss wallflower. After all, not only did He change the water into wine, He made the best wine served all evening!

I’d be willing to bet the rent that not only did He laugh, He congratulated the bridegroom, hugged the bride, glad-handed friends and neighbors, and probably even did some folk dancing. And I bet He was a wonderful dancer as well!

Also, with some of the stuff His apostles came up with in terms of questions and responses, which were so off-base with some of the big points of His message, I can easily picture Him stifling a guffaw as He patiently explained things to them!
Yes, that is what I like to imagine that Jesus did.

Agreed. I’ll bet there were times St Peter alone (my favorite, by the way) brought tears to His eyes. 🙂

For example when Jesus said suffer the children to come unto me (Matthew 10:14). We all know one reason that children are delightful is because they do silly things that make adults laugh. In fact, God made them that way so that they could give us joy and their antics would make us love them more and take care of them.
.
I just want to piggy-back on this. Remember how this story unfolded. Jesus was tired. The kids run up to him and the disciples want to send them away.

Many of use, when we’re tired, are not the most friendly people. This begs the question, why would the children run to Jesus?

The obvious answer, he was a non-threatening person, even when he was tired.

Next question – do children like sour pusses?

HECK NO!

Conclusion, the kids liked Jesus, he probably did not teach them Aquinas all the time. 😃

Heck, even Aquinas liked kids and did not talk to them about his writings.

I imagine Jesus being like John Bosco. Bosco taught the kids catechism while he played soccer with them. Then there was John Paul II. John Paul had a very extensive youth ministry. He taught kids the Gospel while they hiked and went camping.

I can imagine Jesus doing fun things with these kids and that’s why they came to him so readily. Also, remember the time that he’s talking to the Apostles and he calls the child to stand in their center. Where did this kid come from? Would Jesus have called this kid into the center knowing that the kid would feel intimidated? I doubt it.

There was a comfort level between him and children.

Finally, let us not forget that Jesus was a normal kid. Don’t kids laugh?

👍
One of my favorite movie scenes is in “The Passion of the Christ” where Jesus is showing Mary the table that he made. I love it because it’s how I imagine his relationship with his mother to have been, especially after Joseph’s death. I would imagine that their bond was not only as mother/son, but as best friends - imagine living your life raising the Son of God and not being able to shout it to the world or cry over what you know is to come of him! And I love how he gently teases his mother in the scene.

I can’t imagine our Lord having 33 years of solemn heaviness. Surely he had a good sense of humor. I also like to imagine him playing with the children in his village when they passed him on the street, or the young children at the feasts and festivities he attended.
As soon as I read the question on the thread “did Jesus ever laugh”, this is the exact scene that I thought of. It touched my heart, Jesus laughing with his mother about how tall the table was…🙂

I smile inside each time I see this picture.

And, yes, I’m positive that Jesus laughed.

I still insist that the best proof that Jesus laughed is the fact that he was a kid. All kids laugh at something, usually at each other and at their parents. 😛

Darn these pregnancy hormones! One look at that picture and I’m bawling! :bighanky: :rotfl:

But yeah…whenever I try to imagine what Jesus was like the first image that always comes to mind is His smile. 🙂
I know this is off-topic
But Congratulations on your incoming bundle of joy (and sleepless nights) (:

Peter makes me laugh, too.

The Transfiguration: A tent for Moses and Elijah and Jesus to camp out in…really? HILARIOUS!😃
