Our Lady is only stated to the mediator or way to attain graces & salvation but they church firmly holds that this is only because Our Lord wills it and without Him Our Lady is nothing. This in no ways replaces Jesus as the Savior and source of all graces šŸ™‚

Next maybe you should warn everyone about the judgmental types.
OK. Please be forewarned! If you say something hurtful I may, in fact, conclude that your behavior was hurtful. And then I might go on to worry that someone who is considering Catholicism might think THIS is who we are. And so then I might try to reassure the person that those attitudes are not a product of Catholicism, and ask them to please not reject the faith from attitudes that aren’t consistent with what the faith teaches.

I didn’t want this person who is seeking the faith to be discouraged because people accused him/her of negative intentions. I’ve known many people trying to come to the Church who had been so indoctrinated against Mary that they experienced a severe aversion when they tried to accept our teachings. The things they have been taught are really offensive to our faith—but they are really trying to get past it. They ALWAYS respond to truth, if they are sincere in their questioning.

No one ever responds well to being attacked or ridiculed.

Matthew 5:22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ā€˜You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

Luke 11:52 Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering."

No one ever responds well to being attacked or ridiculed
Really, so what are you doing now? MAYBE you should look at what your are doing now or maybe your above that sort of error?
No one ever responds well to being attacked or ridiculed.
Can we include our Lady in that too? Even though I have accepted the OP’s explanation, I do not except yours. There are many people that are new to a religion that don’t come in insulting any aspect of that faith. The come in here asking polite questions and state their opinions diplomatically. On a public Catholic forum you might want to avoid using words like sickening, appalling and disgusting. How dare you defend such language against our Lady. Maybe he did misrepresent himself, he said so, and I was willing to let it go until your judgmental posts. He might not have known better, you do. How dare you.
OK. Please be forewarned! If you say something hurtful I may, in fact, conclude that your behavior was hurtful.
Who has been hurtful here? I really worry about what you conclude.

It’s a typo - he meant SSPX.

SSPX is an abbreviation for the ā€œ[Priestly] Society of Saint Pius Xā€ - a priestly fraternity which is in an irregular canonical situation, and who are widely regarded as being schismatical.

Oh yes I am aware of SSPX. But I thought they were Catholic?

Agreed, there were many better ways to express the doubts in the OP.

They are catholic - their canonical standing is irregular, and for all intents and purposes, they are in schism.

Pardon me if i repeat anyone, having not read the whole thread of replies. But it is the feast of the Immaculate Conception today, and I want to respond.

A simple answer is that obviously, all salvation comes through Jesus, who died for our sins. Jesus is Lord. But Jesus had not only a Heavenly Father, who is God himself, and not human, but Jesus also had an earthly Mother, a 100% human being who was created by God like us. If Mary had not said yes - and of course she knew exactly what she was saying yes to, as God would not have her consent to something she did not completely understand - then, we would not have Jesus. Just suppose she hadn’t, then, our Savior would have had a different mother - but since Jesus’ humanity/genes comes from Mary, it would NOT have been Jesus, but someone else. : O Of course God choose perfectly so there was no ā€œnoā€. But certainly you can see that salvation came through Mary’s yes, and her cooperation with the plan of God. And, we needed to be saved, on account of Eve’s ā€œnoā€.

Also all salvation comes through the Catholic Church. If you have a problem with that, you can explore that one too. I think you will be satisfied with the teaching!

As you explore these things, you realize that the Catholic Church really does hold the whole truth on all matters. Its a wonderful thing.

Another Catholic lingo thingy is that we, Catholics and Orthodox, call ā€œvirgin Mary, Mother of Godā€ while most protestants refer to Mary as ā€œthe Mother of Jesusā€. This might help you in understanding the different focus on Mary, as a person, that different Christians have. Emphasising Christ’s divinity more than his humanity and still living with the incarnation every day in prayer, mass etc.

The Catholic Church is not much for ā€œeither orā€ but focus instead on ā€œboth andā€. We are saved ā€œHere and now but not yet.ā€. We haven’t said our final ā€œYesā€ to God as we are still living and can freely choose to turn our backs on God.

I still have problems with how some Catholics express themselves. Mostly this is because of language issues when speaking another language or that they have understood something not quite correctly.

Thank you šŸ™‚ The Catholic Church is quite beautiful. In fact, though im not confirmed, i did go to the Mass today because i want to get in the groove of the Churches requirements šŸ™‚ I believe we are ALL truly catholic if we are His, just a matter of accepting His calling to the Church and subjecting ourselves

I am sorry Teek for landing on you so hard. I have had people challenge me publicly face to face on issues with our Lady, and it just takes the wind right out of me. I also have to truthfully weigh if there was ego involved in my part as well. There is very little that ticks me off and this is one of the few things that do. I apologize, and I will include this episode in my next confession. I really hope you can accept my apology.

JesusReigns,
You sound like you are making a very honest effort to seek the Truth. Bravo! The Truth is in the Church Christ founded, the Catholic Church. It has always seen the Virgin Mary as our spiritual mother. On the cross, Jesus gave us to her as our mother, and we need a mother. No doubt you are experiencing some fear and some temptation on the eve of the big decision to enter the Church. I suspect it is a natural thing. I remember a passage in Augustine’s Confessions when, after heart-wrenching emotional searching everywhere for the truth, he talks about being so exhausted he just ā€œrelaxed a littleā€ and put his trust in God to lead him to the Truth. That was actually the key to his turning point. You kind of sound exhausted to me. I’d suggest simply asking God to keep opening your heart to the Truth, especially about Mary as mother and guide to him. Understanding is a gift of the Holy Spirit–and those who ask, receive.

Of course I accept your apology! And I am truly sorry my comments were judgmental. I didn’t intend to aim my comments AT anyone—I was really afraid we, as a whole, were driving someone away. I am especially sorry for how much I offended you.

I actually admire your love for Our Lady, and your willingness to defend her! I probably haven’t had the kind of experiences you have had with this that have caused you to be ready to go to battle to defend her honor.

I have had people say offensive things, but the ones I have encountered were saying it about things they thought we believe that I myself would strongly disagree with—not about who Our Lady really is and what our beliefs are regarding her. In those cases, explaining the truth is amazingly rewarding because those lies they have been told just fall to pieces in light of the truth.

I don’t really think anyone would object to our love for Mary if they knew what we really believe. It’s too…real, and consistent with God’s love and the kind of intricacy we know is His from observing the universe, and too… beautiful to object to when you understand what is really meant and really being done.

I think, with your love for Mary, you could really help lead people to understand how beautiful her intersession is in helping us draw close to her son! Hold on to that passion! I’m not sure you need to Confess to Jesus that you defended his mom…he was a perfect son after all.

And please, don’t hesitate to tell me when I am being judgmental, or anything else horrible. I only responded because I wanted to explain what I meant. Text stuff stinks because you can’t measure someone’s sincerity by body language or inflection. You just have words.

Thanks Teek. [plus extra characters] Your a good guy.

The Society of Pius Xth

They are in the negotiation state with Rome; but have some serious issues to yey resolve. They are considered by Rome to be in SCHISM

Yes I understand but I was addressing the part where you said they weren’t Catholic. Is that true?

Please understand, it’s like a love letter. You exaggerate and someone reading it as a police report would ridicule it.

When we say you need devotion to Mary or such, we mean practically, she is how we get to Jesus, and the graces bestowed by a devotion to Mary, particularly in the Rosary, are just so so so great. We do not mean theoretically.

Imagine that you write that the passion in the eyes of someone you fancy is greater than the burning flames of a thousand suns. Is this literally true?

Or imagine you are in grade school and learn how to count and think there are 5 numbers in between 1 and 7. Then you grow older and realize that there’s actually an infinite number of numbers between the two.
