The JW’s use a bible that was “translated” by 4 of their members and change words to go along with what they believe… To say that they use the same bible as thousands of denominations is just not true. They use their OWN translation which is not the same as the main line Protestant version.
You can find the differences in the translations if you do a web search.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses are perfectly at ease with the American Standard, NIV or King James Bibles. The attempt to modernize old scripture to current vernacular should not be construed to mean they have their OWN translation.

I know this is “off the thread” but is simply in reply. Also, would anyone like to start a new thread on “What Jehovah’s Witnesses truly believe”? i would gladly take part.

Has the OP returned? I don’t believe so. Too bad theres been some very good posts, many which promote the idea of co-existing.

It could be done with an open minded effort. I have seen it with my brother and my sister in law. One must place their love for each other first, that and respect of each other must be the priority. The rest you can work on. Each others feeling must always be held in the highest regard. It worked from the start, so somehow, someway the idea of control escalted, which can’t be of help. If we always treated each other as we want to be treated, than the entire world would be a better place.

God Bless.

This is simply not true. They will initially be okay with using other versions when doing their door to door ministry, or in the early beginnings of a “bible study” (which is really more of a study of their literature than of the bible itself), but when the rubber hits the road, they will defer to their “version” as superior. They are okay with other bibles as long as they can control were the conversation goes so they can stick with the same dozen or so scriptures that seem to support,to the eyes of the uneducated, their position. They don’t even like using their own publications from years ago because of the conflicts it presents do their latest doctrines. I have had devout JW’s who are elders this very day who consider their own Kingdom Interlinear publication (printed in 1969 and revised in 1985) as something that should not be read! Since when did language change dramtically over the last 30-40 years?? Their “bible” is not the THE bible. I don’t mean this as mean spirited, but it’s twisted and disingenuous. The majority of them simply don’t know any better. Pray for them, they need our prayers.

The above info is from long and direct experience, as I was a JW (cradle) for over 20 years. I used these tactics because that’s what we were trained to do. To the inital poster, run my friend. Run into the arms of Christ’s Church, the Catholic Church. Don’t give these JW’s another moment of your time. There is nothing for you there, believe me.

Some times J.W.s go by the name of bible students, Millenial Dawn bible students etc. are you a J.W. my friend? Just curious. Peace 🙂
My guess would be yes. He or she certainly speaks like one, but we could be wrong.

PJM;7579321:
Faith is purely a Gift from God; and that my friend requires YOUR willing co-operation. Being on the Forum is a good start.

I’ll try to cover a wide varity if information in this our first communication.
  1. JW’s are not Christians! They are a non-believing Cult, with there own “gods” and own ideas of a book of truth. Ours is the nearly 2,000 year old Bible, of which the NT was written by Catholic Men who actually knew Jesus Christ; most of them are giving first-hand-eye-witness accounts of what took place. AND this is proveable even by Secular Historians.
Pat - Please do not speak abusively of other organizations that claim to be Christian. I know for a fact JW’s strive to follow the teachings of Jesus in every day life not just one day a week. They are also not a cult. If so then all christian churches are a cult because it means they follow a man as their leader. (Look it up) They do not worship “GODS” this is total non-sense. Where do you get this information. The believe in one God and His Son Jesus. Your view on the Bible is also wrong - it was written by Jews (there were no Catholics then) Most of the NT is written by Paul who did not know Jesus. So please take the time to find the facts before telling others. If you are sounding hateful you are denying the Christian love you should have for all men.

No, they don’t worship “Gods”, but their theology has created a multi god system. Their mistranslation of John 1:1 has painted them into a corner when one then reads Isaiah 43 and 44.
  1. JW’s are but a few hundred years old; founded not by God [not even “a god”] and there Book of wisdom is “of completely human origin.”
PAT - THERE IS NO SUCH THING A A BOOK OF WISDOM IN THE JW’S
  2. If one actually takes time to read there monthly passouts; one quickly discovers an anti -Christian; and anti-Catholic slant.GREAT care must be taken when reading these monthly propaganda flyers, and they are not comepletely factual.
PAT - DO OTHER CHURCHES HAND OUT FLYERS - YES - READ SOME!
This doesn’t even address the statement.🤷
  1. Like non-Catholic Christians; because they do not have the SINGULAR TRUTHS on Faith and Morals on there side; so they are forced to develope altrenative beliefs; which are geared to be “easier” and more secularly acceptable. This is why they [JW’] unlike the Protestants, who accept most of the Bible; JW’s deny the Divinity of Christ, deny the Trinity; deny ALL of the Sacraments; deny heaven and hell, and deny the ENTIRE BIBLE.
PAT - THE JW’s WAY OF LIFE IS SO MUCH HARDER THAN ANY OTHER CHRISTIAN MAINSTREAM CHURCH. THEY ADHERE TO BIBLICAL TEACHINGS ON MORALITY AND DO NOT ACCEPT THE VIEW OF THE WORLD ON THINGS MANY CHURCHES EMBRACE OR IGNORE
Ah, the “we are the most presecuted, so therefore we’re the truth” spin. JW’s have created their own persecution by inventing their own theology. Rutherford was a master of this.
  1. The Catholic Church is the ONLY Christian Faith that dates back to the Time of Christ Visitation on earth. The Only Christian religion at the time the Bible was assembled, the NT written and it is the CC that gave the world the Bible.
PAT - I FEEL SORRY THAT YOU WERE TAUGHT OR DEVELOPED THESE BELIEFS ON YOUR OWN - THE "CATHOLIC CHURCH APPEARED HUNDREDS OF YEARS AFTER CHRIST AND GREW FROM WITHIN THE ROMAN EMPIRE. ALL HISTORICALLY DOCUMENTED
Hundreds of years? Yeah, I was ignorant about this too before I did some reading. Your “historically documented” evidence? Produce it. In the mean time, try reading the early christian writings, aka, the early church fathers. They are actually mentioned by name in the “Insight to the Scriptures” (Volume 1 under the section “Canon”). Men such as Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp of Smyrna, Clement of Rome, Irenaeus of Lyons, etc. I think you may be surprised what they believed, and they were taught by the apostles or taught by those that knew them. They were very “Catholic” and called the Church “Catholic”.

At least make sure your accusations are based of truth and accurate information otherwise the tables turn and you look like a cult member spewing hate.

**You need to be willing apply the same standard to your own religion. No brushing under the rug the skeletons in the WTBS’s closet. Are you, an ex Catholic who became a JW, willing to start engaging in conversation with a former JW who wants to be Catholic? **

My guess would be yes. He or she certainly speaks like one, but we could be wrong.
Yes, I have been known to be wrong before…It happens alot.
About the only thing I ever did right, was listen to that still small voice, and search out the Catholic Church! LOL! Peace 😉

OK Confusedius my friend. I will be happy to do this. I wont be taking much part though, because the J.W.s are pretty honest where they diverge from historical Christianity, and I for one appreciate this. I only go after those, that are down right deceptive. Peace to you and yours. Look forward to you posting on the thread I will start. 🙂

I have been reading the postings and replies in this “tread” and find that the aggressive reaction to JW’s by those who are supposed to be following Jesus are contrary to his teachings. Also the misinformation of historical developments of the Catholic church and it’s doctrines are sadly accepted as truth without accurate research. There is nothing wrong with quoting documented History especially when it agrees with the Catholic encyclopedia. It is easy to attack people who do not agree with what has been traditionally taught as truth and ingrained in people to follow without question. I have seen this since the early fifties so I can offer first hand knowledge.
It is only when Catholics turn to the Bible that they find whether the Church teachings are in harmony with the teachings of Christ. The Bible encourages everyone to make sure of all things and to examine the scripture to base our beliefs. The Catholic Church does not lean upon the Bible as the only truth. Traditional teaching and Papal authority are accepted over the Bible. That is not an opinion it is a statement from the Church.
So please be considerate to those who offer historical information and ask for a reference not an argument.
I have found most Catholics have no idea what the Church really teaches or understand the fundamental doctrines defining their beliefs.
This can be proved by asking 10 Catholics the same question and getting 10 different answers of opinions or beliefs. This is also true of Mormons, Baptists even members of Islam and yes even some JW’s. Those who were born into a religion usually accept the parents decision or traditional choice within the family without ever looking into the accuracy of the teachings being in agreement with God’s word. So to all who are responding in negative attacks please consider the words of Jesus “Everlasting life means knowing you the only true God and the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ.” It is knowledge based on truth that will make you a follower of Jesus.
I thank you for your time and consideration.

Of course Catholics turn to the Bible, macreadys. It is a Catholic book, produced by Catholics and given to all of Christendom by the Catholic Church.

And, all Church teachings are “in harmony with the teachings of Christ.”
The Bible encourages everyone to make sure of all things and to examine the scripture to base our beliefs.
Amen!
The Catholic Church does not lean upon the Bible as the only truth.
Indeed. We lean upon Christ.
Traditional teaching and Papal authority are accepted over the Bible. That is not an opinion it is a statement from the Church.
Could you please provide your source–a document from the Magisterium that’s online for all to see–that proclaims the above?
I have found most Catholics have no idea what the Church really teaches or understand the fundamental doctrines defining their beliefs.
This, sadly, is true. The Catholic Church has done an abysmal job providing catechesis to her flock.
This can be proved by asking 10 Catholics the same question and getting 10 different answers of opinions or beliefs.
Again, true.

However, this is irrelevant to whether the Catholic Church proclaims the Truth or not. That many don’t know it is sad, but irrelevant.

The Catholic Church does not lean upon the Bible as the only truth.
You are correct, although I would re-word that to say that we do not lean upon the Bible as the only source of truth. There are not different truths.
Traditional teaching and Papal authority are accepted over the Bible. That is not an opinion it is a statement from the Church.
This is an innacurate statement. We hold Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture as equal for the simple reason that Sacred Tradtiion is prior in time to Sacred Scripture and Sacred Scripture is simply part of Sacred Tradition committed to writing. It is the same truth, however. Please provide the statement from the Catholic Church that says that Tradition is accepted over Scripture.

Papal authority cannot be placed in the same context and is another issue entirely.
So please be considerate to those who offer historical information and ask for a reference not an argument.
Do you have historical information that conflicts with Catholic claims? Feel free to present it.

Unfortunately, you will get no argument from me on this point, although in fairness, I have found the same sad reality among most, not some, JW’s as well.
So to all who are responding in negative attacks please consider the words of Jesus “Everlasting life means knowing you the only true God and the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ.” It is knowledge based on truth that will make you a follower of Jesus. I thank you for your time and consideration.
I agree completely. 👍

I never knew much about Jehovah Witnesses, but this is so shocking. It’s not their fault how they were brought up though. A friend used to be friends with a JW, who would cover his ears when a Christmas song was played and he had to skip Religious Education lessons.

Yes, the Christman songs, at least the religious Christmas songs, concern the birth of Jesus, therefore they would be off limits. Birthdays, even the birth of our Savior, are not allowed to be celebrated. There are two scriptural refrences that they use to defend this position. One concerns a dream of Joseph while exiled in Egypt, resulting in the death of the chief baker (Pharaoh had his head impaled on a stake) on Pharaoh’s birthday. The second concerned the beheading of John the Baptist on Herod’s birthday. Two birthdays with bad endings. From these two passages they have determined that the celebration of one’s birthday is evil. They, unfortunately, forgot about another birthday, that of Jesus Christ, when even the angels in heaven celebrated. 🤷

🙂 That last bit was nice to read lol.

I feel a bit sorry for them, having to go round people’s houses and being rejected. My mum used to listen to them because she felt sorry for them and one day they gave her a leaflet on how science can lead you to God. This was what saved my faith, so I’ll give the Watchtower credit for that.

i do not wish to respond to the rest of your “quote” because I will be repeating mush of what I have said. I can only draw on what I how I have seen “Christians” act (from all churches) as being raised a Catholic that truly deny Christ by their words and deeds. Jesus said his followers will be recognized by their love for one another and their neighbor. At least make sure your accusations are based of truth and accurate information otherwise the tables turn and you look like a cult member spewing hate.

My friend got married and moved back east. She and her husband came back to visit, and called me to let me know they had something very serious concern that they needed to discuss with me.

In the meantime while they were gone, I came to praying the rosary with devotion. It began the day the Holy Father John Paul II was shot in Rome. I had been in interior theological angst for about 7 years after returning home as a lay missionary exposed to liberation theology.

I got down on my knees, started praying the rosary for him, and at the end of my 15 prayer, my spiritual wound was healed…through John Paul II’s sufferings united to Mary.

I grew rapidly in clarity and strength of faith.

When my friends came to visit, the first thing they asked me is if I believed the Bible is the Word of God. I said yes. Then they showed me how the Catholic Church contradicted the Bible by changing the 10 commandments around and having us worship on Sunday instead of Saturday. They had become Seventh Day Adventists. I felt alot of power coming from them. But I also held on to the truth…and the Holy Spirit in leading me to the truth kept me right where I was as a Catholic.

Her mother and I were friends. She told me she went back to see her daughter and son-in-law about this change in church beliefs. She went to one of their Sabbath services. The minister met her. When he got up, he began renouncing the Catholic Church. She finally got up and when walking out, he hurled insults at her behind her back.

A few years later, the couple returned to them and they did their own research on the founder of that church that also drew on the ‘Restorationist Movement’, that created the Jehovah Witnesses and the Mormon beliefs. They found out more about the founder, and finally left. Their faith was so damaged…they ended up Evangelicals, more emotion based, Spirit-led, unable to belong to any formal church.

The rosary is very powerful. It can clear up alot of confusion and protect you from error.

Hi, can you elaborate on the bolded/italisized/underlined above for me please?

and I have a comment on the ‘misinformation’ of historical developments. I am thinking you’re talking not just about teachings of the church but its foundation on the first century?

We Catholics know our Church to be the one that Jesus founded. You know that of course. There are many other churches out there that believe they are ‘the one’. We all know there is ONE. Bible says so. Which one is it?

Just a thought here: the bible starts talking about a church in the new testament. Right? It is mentioned a lot. So we know there was a church then when the apostles were alive. That’s a long time ago! We also know that it is Christ’s church. Right? and that no one will prevail against it. Right?

The catholic church has evidence of its very very old existence and roots to Christ. But NO other church has such proof. And if you ask them, they will tell you when their church was founded. which wasn’t that long ago. So how do these churches say that the catholic church’s historical documents aren’t enough or aren’t real or sth, and yet they have abs NO proof of their roots to Christ, and agree that their church was just built? If there was a church in the new testament, how can a ‘new’ church think it’s their church talked about when they just came up recently?

I’ve never seen anyone else’s historical (HISTORICAL = OLD, FACT, PROOF, REALITY) documentation for their roots to Christ. You know?

What are the facts and proof documenting that your faith traces “their roots to Christ”? I frequently read this on this forum, but do not know from whence it comes. I would really appreciate any references I could study. Thanks!

James
