Hi all, I’m not sure if I’m posting in the correct place but any help would be great. I’ve been helping my girlfriend come back to the faith and we’ve been having a hard time finding a church. Were looking for a church that has good music, homilies and community. She goes to school at IL State and is from NW Chicago. Thanks in advance and may God bless you all in this new year.

Welcome to the forums. Keep up the good work with your friend. I suggest you try to find a priest near you from www.opusdei.org and see if they can help you with this question and maybe more.👍 🙂

How about the Shrine of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest?

Are you looking for a church in Normal or back in Chicago? ISU undoubtedly has an active Newman Center . . . lots of Chicago Catholics go to school there. There is also a more conservative organization – I believe it is called Crossroads, but am not sure about that (may be confusing my second collections here) – that ministers to Catholic collegiates. They may be a good source as well.

Where are you at?
Besides the useful links provided by other members, I’d suggest that you could pray about it. I’ve learned this from my girlfriend who prayed about it and she’s been led to her parish which is now mine, and the parish has helped us so much by providing my opportunities and activities for both of us to participate – to me that quality is a sign of a good parish.

Welcome to CAF. 🙂

When I have moved in the past, I find the closest three or four churches and I attend mass at each of them to get a feel for them. You will get a feel for which church is the best for you through attending mass and through prayer.

You may also want to see which churches in the area offer Eucharistic Adoration 😉

God bless and good luck in finding a great parish.

St. Mary of the Angels is an Opus Dei parish.
St. John Cantius has two latin masses every Sunday and a new order of priests that recently began there.

Both Parishes are right in Chicago, so if you are a suburbanite they may be a bit far for you.
