Please help me find an Old Testament verse!

I’ll thank you in advance. I’m trying to find a verse in the Old Testament concerning the practice of pagan people who keep babbling and repeating the names of their gods in the hopes that one of the gods will eventually answer. I seem to remember that the pagan would pray all day non-stop trying to coax one of the gods down from heaven. It’s in the OT somewhere, I just can’t find it. Your help would be appreciated! 🙂

I am not sure if this is the passage you are looking for, but in 1 Kings Ch.18 Vs. 25 and following. Elijah coax’s the prophets of Baal to pray like that.

Jesus refers to it in Matt. 6 ver. 7&8.
