hey everyone. and god bless,

yes. i bet youve probably read already a bunch of threads of angsty teenagers but please hear me out. im not really sure what to do now, i feel that i have failed as a catholic and as a christian. though i profess to love god, im a very immoral person. im an alchoholic, i have constant lustful thoughts, i have an addiction to masturbation, i've had sex with a girl that i thought loved me but she cheated on me. and i'm sort of drunk as i type this post. i dont want to be this anymore, i just want to feel loved.

if i posted this thread in the wrong spot im sorry i didnt know. i just want to stop drinking, i want to feel happy again. i want to be able to be vigilant torwards my faith, and the only time i really am is when im drunk. and thats not right -_-. im not really sure what topic im trying to address. maybe im just shouting at a brick wall, im not sure. i've never really been very religous. i mean like, i've studied catholicism alot, and im really so glad to be one. its just that i feel that i've done so much wrong that theres no way i can turn back. what do i do?

The amazing thing is that through all your faults, all your sins, all your problems, God loves you. All of us are unworthy of God’s love.

Just pray to Him. Go to AA for help with alcohol, and if you overcome that, once you’ve overcome it, you may see that you can overcome anything. Go to confession, and try-really try-to give up your sinful ways.

Find out what it is that spurs you to masturbate, then avoid those things. Something triggers it. Get to the root of the problem, know yourself, and avoid those temptations.

Start praying the rosary, try to go to mass every day, spend time before the Eucharist in adoration. Get involved in your parish community.

My prayers are with you.

Hi…I am a mom of several teenagers, and I myself have gotten into some very tough situations that I felt stuck in. One thing I can tell you with utmost certainty is that The Lord is never closer to us as when we want to turn to Him and forsake one or more of our destructive ways. The fact that you sent this email is evidence that you are on the right track. Banker David had some good advice, AA, Mass, Adoration. These can all do immense good. But you are the one who has to do them! And I can tell you that when you decide to turn towards God, you will feel sometimes as though you are swimming upstream againt lots of opposition, from within and from without. But the very best news is that God will be with you and He absolutely will give you grace each step of the way. Be very brave and bold and take the steps toward Him. You will find that He will do as the father of the prodigal son, and run to meet you! If you act in faith, He will feed and bolster that faith. You can know that my husband and I will include you in our prayers.
Oh, and the thing I found out about feeling stuck is that it was a lie of the devil. All I had to do was turn toward God(which naturally meant turning my back on my sinful ways) and I was helped every step of the way, to a place where I can hold my head up and live uprightly before Him in peace. I pray the same for you, friend.
A rosary a day is a powerful weapon.

God Bless you

its just that i feel that i’ve done so much wrong that theres no way i can turn back. what do i do?

by the way…this is never true…

Hang in there. What has been said is so true. Nothing is ever too late, too far, too anything for God to reach you faster than you can say “help.” Only your open heart matters. Be confident.

Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

You certainly haven’t done anything worse that St Paul (who spent years hunting down Christians), St Peter (who denied Christ), or St Augustine who was a heretic and worse for 20-some years (I highly recommend you read his ‘Confessions’). Think of these saints and ask for their help.

They could and did turn back from their sins, were forgiven and did better than well. Although I’m sure they weren’t perfect forever after. Neither will you, be, but the point of Confession is that Christ knows we slip up at times. You’re young enough to learn to do good

Do you think that all those people at Church are better than you? I think you do think that and I’m telling you they are no better or worse than you and that includes the Priest (he goes to confession too)

Your post is great, you have the courage to look at yourself and be honest about yourself and alot of people can’t or won’t do this.

The next step is to pray about all these things you are talking about in your post and ask Jesus for the grace to go to confession and He will give it to you. Book an appointment with the Priest and talk to him, he will be very pleased to see you and tell him about your life from as far back as you can remember to the present day.

I think you are a good and intelligent person who seems to have alot to deal with . People who are not alcholics sometimes crack a bottle when they are upset not just in times to celebrate, so discuss your drinking patterns to establish why you are drinking and if infact you are alcoholic and how to deal with drink in the future. Alot of young people drink and it doesn’t lead to alcoholism, but sometimes it can do and I don’t want to see that happen to you, so take advice.

I think you are asking alot of yourself, you have to give yourself time to grow in holiness. Jesus doesn’t demand from day one, at birth, we are perfect, Jesus knows none of us can do this, Jesus draws us along gently over the years and you have to allow God to do this without giving up hope in His grace. No Saint became a Saint by themselves, they weren’t born Saints and they didn’t stop sinning altogether when they became Saints. Read St Paul, he will tell you all of this himself in Sacred Scripture.

The glory of God is made manifest in His Son Christ Jesus in us by our coming to grow in His likeness and this can only be done by persevering and trusting in God’s grace over the many years of our lives and everyone goes by a different path and no two Saints will follow the same journey with Jesus, but everyone of them ends up in the same place, Heaven, we all go up differently that’s all.

You be who you are and don’t worry, we each have to get up again after we have sinned, so just get up and continue and persevere.

You are doing fine, carry on seeking Jesus because He loves you very much.🙂

We are all saints and sinners at the same time.

In the Living prayer of my life.

God created you and He loves you with an infinite love. You are still on this earth and can make use of the Lord’s help to get you on the right track. Don’t lose hope! Pray and return to the Sacraments.

As an ex-drunk, I too remember thinking about God and guilt and religion when I was hammered. I think that because alcohol, in large quantities, makes you feel very vulnerable and exaggerates all the fear and loneliness. That was actually a good thing in my case in that it became so unpleasant to be drunk that eventually, during one of the fall-on-my-knees moments, it actually sunk in.

Speaking to the issue of drinking, you must understand that alcohol is a terrible depressant. And it creates a cycle that you can’t break free from until you refrain from drinking. Even folks who wouldn’t qualify as alcoholics can experience this if they drink on a regular basis, as many teens and college kids do. You feel bad so you drink. After you drink, you feel bad that you did drink. So you drink again to keep from feeling worse. It won’t end until you eliminate the culprit and start to address what makes you drink in the first place. That is where your relationship with God fits in.

I started drinking alcoholically at 14 years old. I used to feel like there was a huge hole in my heart and soul and only alcohol and drugs seemed to fill it. Thirty years later, I discovered that the hole was my yearning for a God sized love that only the one true God could fill. It doesn’t have to take thirty years to realize that. You can start now and avoid the heartbreak and tragedy of a life where alcohol becomes your God.

I agree with the above poster. You should first talk to your priest and I would also suggest, your parents. They can help guide you to find the support you will need to rid yourself of this unnecessary cross. Alcohol abuse throws up a huge and sometimes impenetrable wall between you and God. I could not hear His call to me from the bottom of a bottle. Stop the drinking, clear your head, and start from the beginning.

Oh, my, boy do I know what it feels like to look for love in all the wrong places. It’s a wonder that I’m alive.

But, thanks be to God, I am. And thanks be to God that you are searching and seeking help now, at the age of 17. Its so dang hard to be that age!

Start with your parents. If you can’t, then go to your Priest. But please, just talk to someone in real life.

God love you for saying all that you typed. Hang in there, choose one thing to tackle right now, today, and I would say, tackle the alcohol, get it out of your life, start thinking clear…that’s the beginning.

I am praying for you!

There is some great and wise advice from some great and wise people here! People that have “been there done that.” As blessedtoo said, get thee off the alcohol so that the brain starts to function more normally. AA has (I believe) saved the lives of a few of my family members. It is a wonderful organization. Everyone there knows exactly where you’re coming from! I would of course also talk to a trusted priest. The rosary for me was over the top powerful for me when I went through crisis with family. The Blessed Mother will lead you back to her Son and help turn things around for you big time! Just ask her. She will help you!

I will pray for you in my morning rosary.:gopray2:

p.s. And please don’t EVER feel that there is no way back. Sinners are Jesus’ favorite people!!

xfaust42x - How are you doing?

At Mass last night, I prayed for you. For some reason, you were on my mind.

Let us hear from you.

Still praying…

You may want to be screened for depression by a professional.

I know that many people who are depressed self-medicate themselves with alcohol.

God Bless you ! He will never give up on you. Don’t give up on Him!

Dear xfaust42x,

I struggled with the same stuff you did. (and but for the grace of God I could again) The Lord allowed me fall to the bottom of the gutter, so I could realize how much I needed Him. I tried to beat all the problems you mentioned time and time again, but I kept finding myself down in the gutter. When I finally realized I couldn’t do anything on my own, I had no other choice than to turn to God. I honestly couldn’t do it without God’s grace.

Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Cor 12:8-10

As I relied less on myself Christ was able to work in me. Don’t get me wrong I had to discipline myself. It’s like exercise because It’s hard work and it isn’t easy. It took years of falling down even with the Lord help. But God gives us the strength to keep getting up. Trust in the Lord and take the advice that was given above.

Also, these scripture passages are related to suffering but I know they will help your situation.

Young brother, we all have temptations-the devil never quits until we’ve come to our final reward. The fact that you are fighting them, even sometimes unsuccessfully, says a lot!

Going to Mass is easy. Go as often as possible, get to confession so you can receive the Eucharist.
Jesus said:
“Cast your burdens upon me,
Those who are heavily laden
Come to me all of you who are tired
Of carrying heavy loads
For the yoke I will give you is easy
And My burden is light
Come to Me and I will give you rest.”

i feel that i have failed as a catholic and as a christian. though i profess to love god, im a very immoral person.
So what makes you different than any of the rest of us.
Let's take a walk down the Roman Road::
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 6:23a “…The wages of sin is death…”

Romans 6:23b “…But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!”

Romans 10:13 “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved!”

Romans 10:9,10 “…If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

Revelation 3:20a “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…”

It sounds like Jesus is knocking … will you answer?

I want you to know that God will always forgive you. It sounds as though you are truly sorry. I’d advise you to pray a lot just directly to God and spill out your heart. Go to a priest and talk to him about how to get your life on track and then go to confession. Maybe even join your parish youth group and try to read the bible. You’ll get through this. If you have to join an AA group or something so that youi can deal with your substance abuse which is a horrible problem. God Bless you
