They only worship on the “true sabbath” which is Saturday- and claim that worshipping on Sunday is pagan. …
The amusing thing to do with strict ‘Sabbatarian’ is to remind that because of the English Calendar act of 1750 that September 1st jumped to September 14th - to be in line with the Gregorian calendar. So their celebration of Christmas is probably off by a few days.

😃

Once that sinks in… remind them the Pope Gregory XIII who spurred the reform was… of corse… Catholic.

I hope that someone can help me with this! I have a friend who believes she belongs to God’s true church. They don’t celebrate any “man-made traditions” such as Easter or Christmas, and identify these Holy Days as “pagan”. Because Jesus was Jewish, they only celebrate Jewish holidays- and celebrate the birth of Christ during the Feast of the Tabernacles. They only worship on the “true sabbath” which is Saturday- and claim that worshipping on Sunday is pagan. They worship in small communities in homes- primarily reading the Bible and talking. They follow no man-made traditions, depending solely on the Bible and their interpretation of it. They aren’t Seventh Day Adventist or Jehovah’s Witness. This friend continuously preaches anti-Catholicism and says that the Holy Spirit has told her to get His people out of the pagan Catholic Church. She is becoming rather successful at it and leading some people astray. I would like to defend our faith, but need help identifying hers first- so I can adequately prepare. Does anyone have a clue to what faith she belongs? Thanks!
Good question. When I read comments on a popular news site called World Net Daily, I wonder the same thing… (especially comments about stories regarding the Pope), I wonder “who are these people”???
They claim to be Christians…they quote St. Paul alot (cut and paste scripture, cherry picked). They hate Catholics, Muslims and gay people. They are OSAS. They won’t say what their denomination is. They say the most vile things about catholics.
Who are these people?
Christians full of hate and arrogance. Amazing.
(They seem to have been reading jack Chick comics…that was something else I never knew about that another catholic on those boards told me about. Horrors.)

Based on my experience posting to them (innocently trying to correct some of their misunderstandings) I found that they are not at all interested in understanding.
I don’t try that anymore.
So I don’t think you’ll have much luck if you’re thinking of engaging her in conversation or debate of any kind.

Am I being naive here…but why don’t you just ask her which faith she belongs to?

That seems like it would be more fruitful in being able to find information on her faith.

Usually it’s better to go to the source so you know whether or not you are addressing the right issues and beliefs.

Well I would point out to the individual that Christian holidays such as Nativity and Pascha etc are Jewish. If they don’t understand that they have zero understanding of Christianity. Also Jesus was literally buried for three days as figured at the time. The modern way of speaking is just that, modern.

He was literally buried for three days as figured at the time, yes. The issue comes from Mt 12:40- the reference to Jonah. There, it’s described as three days and three nights. They claim that’s literal, while the mainstream view is that it idiomatically means three days. (Which Friday-Sunday was, as figured at the time)

I could not find any information of Nativity as a Jewish holiday, can you please direct me?

Thanks

It’s the Festival of Lights because it celebrates the Incarnation of the Light of the Word. It’s also eight days just like Hanukkah. I would also add that the Transfiguration is the Feast of Tabernacles and Pentecost is the Festival of Weeks.
