Hi, I am not a Christian but that is because I am still in my spiritual journey. Recently however I had a moment where I said out loud in my room that “if I sign up to this message board, I am selling my soul to the Devil…” for no real reason. I have wanted to sign up to the forum so bad and I have OCD so I told myself that I am being dumb and should just sign up… but now I am worried thaqt this is a trick by Satan and that he wants me to think its just my mental problem so I sign up and sell my soul to the Devil…

please help me, does this mean I am selling my soul? I’m so scared, I really like to post at this forum!!
 
Can I somehow cancel that saying? Is there any way that God can have my soul AND I sign up at the forum? What should i do… im so scared!!!

Peace be with you, do not fear, Jesus promises us that he is present where two or more are gathered in his name. You are on good soil here. Please do not fear, for fear comes from the evil one. The evil one wants us to fear, that is why Jesus tells us not to fear, and promises his peace to us.

Sure, you can cancel out anything you say. Just say to yourself “I take that back” and it’s gone.

Lots of us say things or think things we don’t mean. Sometimes our minds just experiment with different ideas, even some that are offensive, and sometimes they slip out of our mouths. One of the benefits of Christianity is that it focuses the mind on good things, so that our thought experiments start to reflect God’s holy will instead of our damaged human nature. You don’t even have to push it, it just happens by itself. It’s very nice when that happens and it makes us better people.

You took the first step in finding God and there is no better way to Christ than through the Catholic Church, the Church of Christ.
Remember Christ when He was with us stated that a house aganist itself shall fall so reasoning will tell you that Catholics can not be a part of Satan as Satan would not have any part of someone worshipping the Almighty God and not him, and cannot be a part of Satan and his demons. There is one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church that can trace it’s roots to when Jesus walked amongst us.
 
Don’t you think God has enough sense to know not to take that seroiusly?

I am a Christian and I’m still on my spiritual journey. We all are. 🙂 But our journey need not be filled with fear. Fear is of the devil. Jesus told us “be not afraid.” The bible says that 365 times, one for each day of the year. :yup:

God made you and He gave you your soul. So God already has your soul. You just have to believe it. For God so loves you that He sent His only Son to die for your sins.

Hi there Triple A,

You mentioned that you are not a Christian, above. Truth is if you are not a Christain you are already have sided with the devil unknowingly or knowingly.

It is Jesus Christ that is bringing you here to this Catholic site to become a Christian, Incase you don’t know Catholics are Christain and were the first to be Christians.

It is the devil who makes you think by becoming a member here you are going to sale your soul to him, now this is a trick of the devil indeed.

Pray to the Virgin Mary and she will help you find Jesus all the sooner, God be with you. AMEN

And in answer to your implied question, it is not possible to “sell one’s soul.” Such is not the nature of our souls which are created by God and are not ours to “sell.” Be at peace; God is with you. 🙂

I don’t think the PP was implying that Triple A was insincere; rather that God in His infinite wisdom has enough sense to know that the OP was not seriously attempting this diabolical transaction.

Stop it. That isn’t the way to speak to someone who is obviously distressed and looking to us for help. :mad: Besides, that statement isn’t true. The devil may well be happy when one leaves the faith and/or does things that are contrary to the Gospel message, but you can hardly say that good people who aren’t Christians for whatever reason are “siding with the devil.” That is an extremely inflammatory and elitist outlook.

God knows that you have OCD and that you didn’t really mean what you said out loud. Even if a person “sold his soul to the devil” the devil couldn’t keep it. Your soul belongs to you and to God. God would never let you lose it because you said something stupid. Maybe the devil doesn’t want you on this forum. But don’t scare yourself off. God loves you. He wants you to continue seeking him. Remember Jesus said “seek and you shall find” so keep looking for God and ask Him to bring you to Himself.
 
Actually you cannot sell your soul, so even if you truly did want to sell your soul and proceeded to sell it, you would not lose it in essence but would rather commit a terrible sin.

The council of Trent defined that all sins can be forgiven in the sacrament of reconciliation:

It is not possible to sell your soul to the devil. That is just an expression that means doing something bad to get ahead or make money. Like a person who would cheat his employees to keep more money for himself.

Since you have OCD, I suspect you also have what is called scrupulosity. That is an irrational fear that you are committing sins all the time.

Whether you are a Christian or not, you need to make an appointment with the priest in your local Catholic Church. Explain to him you are interested in exploring becoming a Christian but will need special help because of your OCD. Your compulsions will sometimes make you susceptible to ideas like the one you express about the devil.

Remember, There is nothing that God cannot and will not forgive.

That’s right. No sin is greater than God’s mercy. You just have to ask for His mercy and He’ll lovingly give you His mercy.

If you do not normally pray you can start with a very short prayer. Say it every day at least once. That prayer is
"Jesus, I Trust In You!"

Jesus is the fount of Mercy for us. Here is a longer prayer in case you feel up to it;

The Miracle Prayer

Lord Jesus, I come before You just as I am.
I am sorry for all my sins.
I repent of my sins, please forgive me.
In Your name, I forgive all others
for what they have done against me.
I renounce Satan, the evil spirits & all their works.

There are other prayers but I don’t want to overwhelm you with prayers right away. If you just start out with “Jesus, I trust in You” you can slowly work your way to more prayers. Jesus is very patient and He will wait for you no matter how long it takes you. He will always be there for you.
 
Thank you so much for posting this. I have a good friend who believes that he has sold his soul. I pray this will help him.
