Hello,

I am a person who considers myself to be very lucky to be Catholic. I used to enjoy every fruits of the Catholic church and was full of love for Jesus. Jesus, in his merciful heart, has helped me immigrate to North America and to find my current job which I am truly grateful for. Everything was good until about 8 months ago, some desire came to my heart and I started to wish that this desire of mine comes true in reality. I have been attending mass daily (yes, including the weekday masses), been praying Chaplet of Divine Mercy, 54 day novena and all for the past 8 months. Despite my prayer, however, the situation doesn’t seem to be improving and it’s always status-quo. I even made God promise that if this desire of mine does come true, that I will try my best for my own sanctification, and that I will pray hard for the conversion of sinners and the souls in purgatory. But like I said the situation is not improving in my favour and now I am all sad and depressed just because of the thought that God will not make my wish come true. If God is gracious and merciful, he could have told me that it is not his will that my desire should come true earlier on so that I can give up on my dream more peacefully, but this desire has been growing in my mind steady and now this is all I think about throughout the day. And the very thought that my desire will not come in reality makes me literally go depressed. I tried to pray 5 decades of rosary today but I could not meditate on the mysteries like I used to. When I pray, I feel the coldness in my heart, coming from bitter disappointment. Now that I am experiencing this, my biggest fear is not only that my wish will not come true, but I am also starting to fear that I will be angry at God forever and thus unable to feel his love that he has for me. I am keep on praying but day after day I am losing my hope. People has been telling me that God will give me what I need, not necessarily what I want, but this hasn’t been help for me. My desire is so strong that if it does come true in future, I will be so grateful to God that I would do anything for him.

What should I do? I have no peace in me.

You may not want to hear this, but what you should do is accept the Will of God and put everything in His hands. You may have already received your answer, but don’t want to admit it because it is a great disappointment. It really does not do a person any good to bombard heaven with prayers when you are not submitting your will to Him. Also, bargaining with God and making promises is not really a good spiritual practice. We should be willing to do anything for Him without having to make bargains. I realize this is difficult to do, but I have been in your position, and submitting my will to God was really the only thing that gave me peace, once I finally let go of my own desires.

Unknown friend, my heart goes out to you and I will pray for you.

It is late at night in Ireland and I am tired now. But I note you mention the Divine Mercy. I wonder if you could find a way to simply pray these 5 words as sincerely as you possibly can: “Jesus, I trust in you.”

I hear that you are suffering with this incredibly intense desire and I cannot pretend to know what this must feel like. But these simple five words are very powerful when prayed intensely, I think. He gave these 5 words for a reason - a reason of undoubtedly unfathomable profundity.

If you can, I would encourage you to do whatever you can to trust in Him. I hear this may be hard and I will be praying for you. God be with you.

The highest form of love is often sacrificial and one way. I’m sure god will use your prayers to bless his person you are praying for, but this person may not be the one god has in mind for you.

Be certain that your fervent prayers will bear fruit, just maybe not this season or this particular garden.

God wants to be first in your heart and loved with this much desire as the thing you are praying for. Perhaps he is expanding your heart right now through this desire.

God can see better and more clearly what is good for you.

I know what I would do…go to Mary. Remember Cana and the wedding? Jesus sounded rather disinterested in the couple’s problem and I have always felt this was to help us understand that he wants his mother involved with us and to be loved and honored as he loved and honored her. So what happened…she got the favor from her son. Why not try her and tell her how much you appreciate her? Ask her…she can move more than mountains…if your request is good for you to have happen.

May Mary smile on you.

Hi, This part of your post really concerns me. It sounds like you are focusing your life on this “desire”. Shouldn’t your focus be more on God? Anytime we give worldly desires this much attention, we are taking ourselves further away from God. I believe this is why you have no peace. God loves you so much. He is with you always; but, it sounds like you’re turning away from his love. Your desire seems to have turned into an obsession.

Please trust in God. He will take care of you. Saying a prayer for you.

God Bless You.

One thing immediately comes to mind: God wants you to do all of those things, not for earthly rewards, not for good feelings, not for consolations, but because you love Him.

Jesus is like a rich man who wants to be loved because of HIM, not because of the presents that He gives.

Would you be doing all of those things if you had everything you wanted?

Is this desire of yours regarding a future partner ie. someone to marry?

Because if it is, there may be things that you can do, rather than just depending on God to send someone right next to you in the pew.

But that’s only only if it’s regarding finding a partner.
