**I’m new to these forums and, to be honest, I’m already feeling a little guilty about posting this. I don’t want you all to think that I’m trying to take advantage of a Catholic’s willingness to help others. But I need to ask anyway, because there’s a community that I’m trying to help.
I work in a middle school in a small community in North Carolina, and we’re trying to win $25,000 in US Cellular’s Calling All Communities campaign.
I’ve e-mailed everyone I know and posted everywhere I could think of, but it seems like it just isn’t enough to help us get to the top. I was running out of ideas and after church yesterday I thought, “oh my goodness, I’m part of a huge community that could really help us!” The only thing stopping me from asking my parish to help out my school is that the church is part of a school itself (St. Mary’s Catholic School), and I thought I’d be out of line in doing so. And it’s the only Catholic church in the area. I know this is getting long so let me share with you how this works.**
All you have to do to help my school win is to vote for us online. You just go to US Cellular’s website (callingallcommunities.dachisdev.com/), register to vote, and then vote for E B Frink Middle School (zip code 28551). Super easy and takes a minute of your time.
**Our school is located in a city of about 2800 people that you would drive past and not even notice. It’s an area where our children walk the streets as a form of entertainment. It looks grim, and our school isn’t much better. It was built in 1920 and used to be called La Grange Colored High School. My hope is that if we win, after we buy all the necessary, and much needed, academic resources, that we’ll have some money left over to…well, make it more appealing. Maybe have some grass that isn’t dry and patchy or bathrooms that look clean. Maybe some new paint to give the school some life, some personality or cameras and locked doors to make it safer. We’d also like to expose our kids to more colleges. Living in such a small community, sometimes it’s hard to imagine a world beyond our borders. Maybe we can show it to them.
I apologize if it isn’t appropriate to be asking you all to help, but I’m not sure what else I could do. Every vote really does count and is immensely appreciated. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
