Thanks so much for all the replies.

When DH got home, we sat down and made a pros and cons list and decided that he should take the job based on that. He is going to attempt to negotiate but there were things he hadn’t even told me. There is basically no chance for advancement in his current job, at the new job they mentioned several times they may need someone to take an IT role in the future (not needed now but they are growing) and that he would be perfect for it, which is what he would prefer to do. He will be working in the office with his best friend’s brother (who he is also friends with), his best friend works at their office in another state but with the same company.

He and I both feel the reduced stress, the increased stability, and the health insurance benefits make it worth it.

Yes, I am a CPA, but I am currently inactive (I didn’t renew my license this year as active because I’m a SAHM). I also did not (and do not) specialize in tax. I will be honest, my mental health is keeping me from taking on anything extra right now. I suffer from anxiety, and it can be quite crippling. One of the things that is CAUSING me a lot of anxiety is my personal taxes for this year, I wouldn’t dare attempt someone Else’s taxes.

I’m hoping having more stability in my life and less worry (having health insurance for everyone) with help with my anxiety and perhaps I can get to a place where I can handle more than just watching my two kids. I hope.

Oh also he will have a $100K life insurance policy, which is generous of them.

I really need to update my signature more often, I haven’t done accounting since my daughter was born!
Very good!

I am so happy it all worked out. 👍

Based on some of the new information shared, I think the best thing for you to do misspriss and try to take it one month at a time. I know it’s a good idea to think of the job in terms of a 5 year outlook, but thinking way ahead in the future can make every day feel daunting and stressful.

To help reduce your anxiety, I’d suggest taking each month as it is and work with what you’ve got. The house is being listed to sell, so that’s one thing out of the way. Look at your grocery budget and think about how to make the food for the month and the money for the month work. Figure out ways to make reductions for the month, and treat every month as a unique time where you can’t necessarily use the last month as a way to predict a pattern. Or, take it each week at a time, or 2 weeks. What you feel is best considering all the things that happen.

Also, would your husband consider having the rest of the family eat on “schedule” for the days he’s going to get home very late? What you could do is feed the children, have a light snack with them, and then when your husband gets home have a fuller meal with him. This way, the children get fed and aren’t cranky (I know 3 year olds get like that), but your husband won’t be lonely eating by himself.

Yes. Or have the kids have fruit or some sort of bedtime snack while daddy is eating his dinner.

At our house, bad things start happening every minute after 5:30 that dinner is delayed.
