I’m looking for information in a hurry. Our dear Uncle Eddie is in hospice care, and the family really wants last rites to be administered by what they call “a pre-Vatican 2 priest.”

Eddie resides in Franklin Park, New Jersey. Franklin Park is actually in two counties: Middlesex County and Somerset County.

Can someone please direct me? We need a local priest willing to come to Eddie’s home and administer the old-style Last Rites. Today would be good.

Uncle Eddie could die any day now. He has not been connected to a church in years, so we have no starting place, and I am praying mightily that a priest will fall into our hands as a result of this query. We’re all busy attending to Eddie, and can’t do that much footwork on this. Thanks! I would be so grateful.

Linda :blessyou:

Linda I ask God to truly help, bless, and comfort your family in facing your Uncle’s frail state. Having lost my mother-in-law two weeks ago I’ve recently experienced some of the love and the pain in family at this time. I’m sure you are all a comfort to each other and your Uncle Eddie. I hope you are led to a priest with whom your family is comfortable.

Linda , may I please kindly say, please don’t let your uncle be denied the Last Rites because a priest is or isn’t pre-Vatican 2. There aren’t two Catholic Churches or two kinds of priesthood. There is only one Catholic priesthood that Jesus has given us. There may be different styles, but ordained Catholic priests are Catholic priests before God. It is **the Sacrament **that ultimately matters, and the ***intrinsic nature ***of the Sacrament is not affected by which priest it is who respectfully and solemnly dispenses the Sacrament to anyone.

Pater noster, qui es in cælis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum;
adveniat regnum tuum;
fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem
Sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Deus meus, ex toto corde pænitet me ómnium meórum peccatórum, éaque detéstor, quia peccándo, non solum pœnas a te iuste statútas proméritus sum, sed præsértim quia offéndi te, summum bonum, ac dignum qui super ómnia diligáris. Ídeo fírmiter propóno, adiuvánte grátia tua, de cétero me non peccatúrum peccandíque occasiónes próximas fugitúrum. Amen.

Réquiem ætérnam dona eis, Dómine,
et lux perpétua lúceat eis.
Requiéscant in pace. Amen.

I found this church on the web that is staffed by priests of the FSSP. The FSSP is a Vatican-approved organization of priests that offer the mass and sacraments according to the pre-Vatican II form. I don’t know how close the church is to you, but they may be able to help. Here is their emergency #: 973-461-9507. The church is located at:
OUR LADY OF FATIMA CHAPEL
32 West Franklin Avenue
Pequannock, NJ 07440

Hope this helps. I will pray for you and your uncle and his family.

There aren’t two Catholic Churches or two kinds of priesthood.

As a matter of fact, there are 23 sui juris Catholic Churches.

Wow, I found someone already! I used a web-based directory of traditional churches, called the nearest church, and Eddie will received Last Rites tomorrow.

May I ask what Church/Priest? Just curious. I also sent you the telephone number of the ICRSS priest in NJ via private message should anything come up and your uncle still needs the Unction.

Happy to hear that your search was successful. Give thanks to PP Benedict XVI and Summorum Pontifucum. I have reasons (which I will not go into here) for saying that.
