I would really like to be able to learn a lot about about what you all discuss here on this forum, but when abbreviations are used it frequently makes me too frustrated to continue when the abbreviations aren’t explained. And same thing goes with some terms too. I am a Catholic, and a pretty strong one at that, but sometimes I have no idea what you all are talking about. Could you please use more universal language? Thank you!

Here’s some I can think of:

JP2 - John Paul II
B16 - Benedict XVI
SSPX - Society of St. Pius X
NO - Novus Ordo
TLM - Tridentine Latin Mass
OSAS - once saved, always saved
SS - Sola Scriptura

Plus lots of people use common web acronyms.

Even those titles can be confusing, as people aren’t necessarily going to have a clue what the following really are and why they may be significant. Perhaps further explantion may be necessary?

Maybe you could let us know which abbreviations you find puzzling.

Hey Howdy Hi and welcome. If you have not lurked for a while, it will get confusing. Even when you know the “lingo”, you have to read into the post or know a little about the poster (e.g. someone may use N.O. as a shorthand expression of the ordinary form of the Mass or they may use it in a derogatory manner). Folks are pretty stuck on their abbreviations so I am not sure they are going to spell it out every time.

Best advice is to look at the links above and don’t be embarassed to ask someone to explain what they mean.

We were all new once.

Also, the terms EF and OF have become very common.
OF = Ordinary Form (of the Mass) = NO = the Mass introduced around 1970
EF = Extraordinary Form = TLM = the traditional Mass that was celebrated before 1970 (still in use, but in far fewer places)
